Axle Housing-to-Upper Control Arm Bushing, Aerostar
NOTE:
In service, the pinion angle adjustment is changed using an eccentric service bushing F09Z-5K789-B. If the bushing is being replaced due to damage or wear only, use standard production bushing F09Z-5K789-A. For pinion angle measurement procedures, refer to «Section 05-00».
Removal
1. Raise the vehicle on a twin post hoist. Position jack stands on the frame rear lift points or under the rear bumper support brackets. If a frame hoist is used, raise the vehicle and position tall jack stands under the rear axle. Lower the hoist until the axle is in the normal ride height position.
2. Remove upper control arm-to-axle housing nut and bolt.
3. With the vehicle securely supported on safety stands, slowly lower the axle until the upper control arm disengages from the axle. If a frame hoist is used, raise the hoist until the upper control arm disengages from the axle.
CAUTION:
The axle must be securely supported on the hoist or stands. If more axle-hoist travel is required, disconnect the shock absorbers from the lower control arms.
4. On the inboard side of the flange, insert a flat-blade screwdriver between the thrust bushing and flange. Pry the thrust bushing end off the bushing.
NOTE:
Do not damage any surfaces.
5. Position Bushing Remover Tool T78P-5638-A5 over the flanged end of the bushing.
6. Install Forcing Screw T78P-5638-A1 through bushing and remover tool.
7. Position Remover Receiver Cup T78P-5638-A4 over the forcing screw on the opposite end of the bushing. Thread remover receiver cup onto the forcing screw.
8. Turn the forcing screw while holding the bushing remover to push the bushing into the receiver cup.
9. Remove the forcing screw, bushing remover and remover receiver cup tools.
