Transmission/OD Light-HELP!!!! Please respond!!!!!
I have a 1998 Ford Ranger 4x4 automatic. I need some opinions. The od light was blinking on and off. not all the time, for about three weeks. I didn't notice any problems though, it was running fine. Then all of a sudden when I was driving, the truck wasn't shifting right and reving really hard. Then, I pulled over for a minute and put it park. I decided to drive it home, I was only two blocks away. I put it in drive but it didn't shift. I turned it off and then back on again,put it in drive and it shifted, but it still was not shifting into higher gears right, and reving really hard. Is it my transmission, or is it a sensor that went bad. I don't know a whole lot about vehicle repair. HELP!!!!!

Hard to tell without getting the error codes from the transmission read. (The flashing OD light indicates your transmission is logging errors.) I going to assume you've checked the fluid level?
It might be something simple, but sounds like a trip to the tranny shop is in your immediate future, at least to get the codes read....

I had the same problem on my 2000 3.0 auto. the speed sensor and the abs sensor are one unit mounted on the rear differential and cost 17 bucks to replace. Hook it up to a code reader to be sure. 98's and up are the same.
