the other day i was getting out into some heavy traffic and i gassed it. engine reved and was at the point taht the transmission should have shifted and kept on reving, didn't shift at all at first. kept reving higher and higher, and its definantly passed the point it should have shifted then finally theres pretty hard shift and that was it.
i had the check engine light flickering off and on, but thats old news when i had the codes pulled it was the egr valve and i still haven't done anything about it. but after what happened now the check engine light is on and its not going off. start truck it lights up and stays on till the truck is turned off. not only that but it feels off. im not sure what it is, maybe throttle response. but something doesn't feel quite when im driving, and i think the transmission MAY be shifting harder than it was, not sure on that though. but something feels off. any ideas on what happened? i have no clue other than having my codes pulled sometime. and i really won't have the time to do that for quite a while. ive been very busy lately. any ideas guys?
they can't pull my codes because the idiot who does it doesn't know what hes doing i guess. said my computer was shorted out or was messed up or something. took it to a good shade tree mechanic i know and he pulled the just fine. i really need to set a time to have it done with him and i don't have time to even go to autozone right now let alone schedule time. hence why im here guys.
update: i was getting up to the speed limit tonight and giving it a constant amount of gas when out of the blue my tire just break lose and i spin out for a second. didn't change how much gas i was giving it, just out of the blue it happened. engine didn't rev up any more either. just did it. could this be my transmission acting up.
and guys maybe you didn't understand my first post but this should have nothing to do with the egr, it all began after the event i described which happened a few days ago. the egr has been like this for over a year. check sig for the truck guys.
Just a tip...
the Haynes manual has a lot of good info...including how to probe your TPS to check that it's in range.
I got an 89 F150 that was in BAD shape!!!
The guy thought that the engine was blow up...but it was just the power steering pump that was frozen. I have since done things like installing new fuel injectors, new valve stem seals, power steering pump (ha ha imagine that) and steering box, and replacing my TPS and other electronics. When I got the truck initially on the road...it got about 8-10 mpg...now it gets 17-19 mpg! Based on a usual 250 mile trip I frequently make...went from using about a tank and half of fuel (26-27) down to only ~3/4 of a tank (12-13 gallons).
Anyway, I have done a lot to the truck and used that manual for reference.
Very good. I would highly recommend it.
It's worth fixing the EGR actually, it will either improve fuel mileage a very noticeable amount or stop the thing from detonating, depending on what shape the EGR position sensor is in... I didn't bother with it on my old truck but with my newer one I did it and am seeing at least a couple MPG increase, which is a lot on a 351 with 3.55's...
The absolute FIRST thing to do right now is to check your computer's codes. You shouldn't be messing with sensors when you don't know which sensor to mess with. Checking the codes will tell you what is wrong. There is a way you can do it without special tools or diagnostic equipment. A search here would find how, but since the search feature of the site is down right now...just go to fordfuelinjection.com and you'll see a link about checking codes. It'll take you about 15 minutes in the driveway.
Check your codes, come back and tell us what codes you got. Then we can tell you what to do....
