'66 4x4 question

I just bought a '66 F100 4x4 and am wondering if they came with hubcaps? Mine isn't a Custom Cab and doesn't have any...but the original steel rims are on it. Here's a link to it's old eBay listing.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160216135417&ssPageNam e=ADME:B:EF:MOTORS:1123

An mazing find if I do say so myself...the actual miles are correct, by the way...

True, if speaking of hubcaps, but..if speaking of wheel covers, in a nutshell, they also came on the front.

The 1966/72 F100 4WD's used the same wheel covers the 1966/77 Bronco's used.

They were standard equipment on the Bronco's, optional on F100's.

The front wheel covers are Bronco/F100 4WD only: C6TZ-1130-B

The rears are the same ones the 1966 LTD/Galaxies used: C6AZ-1130-G.

For the Bronco and F100 4WD front wheelcovers, Ford took the Galaxie wheelcover, removed the center plastic emblem and replaced it with a red plastic bezel, which allows enough room for the 4WD hub to poke through.

The 1966 Galaxie wheelcovers were also an option on F100 2WD's from 1966/72.

An mazing find if I do say so myself...the actual miles are correct, by the way...
How can you tell those are the actual miles?

I'd take that with a grain of salt...here's what I discovered looking at the pics.

A lotta wear on that steering wheel for only 13,000 miles.

My truck has 187,000 miles and the wheel looks a heck of a lot better than this one does.

The engine was replaced? It only had 5,400 miles on it when the ebay seller got it.

The seat's been recovered and those saddle gas tanks aren't original. There were no auxillary tanks offered till 1967, and then only one on the drivers side.

The truck was hit in the front end at some point, the panels behind the grille are painted red, they were black on all trucks of this vintage, regardless of the exterior color.

I sincerely doubt that's the original floor mat, it looks branny new. The pedal pads have been replaced, and because of that and the wear on the steering wheel tells me that floor mat ain't the original. The Ford replacement floor mats didn't come with jute backing, but all the originals did...is the jute backing still there?

The odometers on these trucks only read to 99,999.9 miles before returning to zero. So it might have 113,000 miles.

I suspect the grille has been replaced...the panels behind the grille appear to be painted red, they were black originally.
Nothing gets past you, Bill!!

Yes, the seat was redone using original materials. Original motor was replaced because of leaking issues, plus the previous owner is an FE builder and wanted his own engine in it. Yes, the grill was originally a white painted version which was beat up, so replaced with what's there now, and the front end repainted red at the same time. Saddle tanks were added by original owners years ago. Don't have an answer for the steering wheel.

I have a friend who lives a mile from where this truck was and he went over it for me. He validated it was in incredible and mostly original condition, so I bought it. I'm not convcerned with everything being original, just wanted it to be in good working/running order, which it is. I don't plan on doing much to it other than possibly adding front discs and a new exterior paint job. Doesn't really need much more than that.

When you've owned one of these old piles for 43 years, you get to know them pretty well.

The seat is all vinyl, that's not the way it came originally.

The only all vinyl interior was the H/D black vinyl available as an option.

What's the trucks Body Code? I'd be interested in what the 4th digit of the VIN is, too.

I'm not trying to run your truck down, but as a car hustler (I've owned over 325 vehicles since 1956), I've heard all sorts of stories about so-called low mileage vehicles. I've seen several so called low milers, one was a "all original" 14,000 mile 1963 Galaxie I bid 20 grand and won on ebay. When I went to pick it up, it was obvious the odometer had been around at least once.

The car had been "freshened" by a Ford dealer in Kansas, all the aluminum trim had been redone, the carpets had been resprayed red with foo foo cans, the front seat had a large depression where someones rump had rested...for many moons and many miles.

The chrome was replated over the pits and there were several lube stickers still on the door, one showed 78,13? miles, another 96,??? miles. The engine was painted blue, it should have been black, there were three different sized tires on the pile, the engine knocked like a bill collector, and the radiator was rotted out...the car was a terd!!

I told the seller...no thanks. When I pointed out all the faults, he didn't object, either.

Don't have the truck here yet (it's in transit), so no body code, but the 4th VIN digit is Y. Didn't say the seat was done to be original, rather original materials were used, as in the woven plastic/vinyl combo used in Custom Cabs back then.

Steve: Nice find...whatever the miles. Looks like it will be fairly easy to bring it up to "good looking truck" status. I appreciate the fact that under the hood has been taken care of. I can't stand to see a nice truck (particularly when the engine has been changed out) with a crappy engine compartment.

Yea, I'm pretty happy with this purchase. Now I've got a fighting chance here in MN during the winter, because I plan on driving it. I'll probably drive this one to Slick Stock, so you'll get a chance to see and drive it. Should have a new coat on it by then and look good...the interior is prestine from what my friend told me after seeing it in person, so not much to do there except not spill drinks and food in it...

Nice find, after looking at what you paid for it i feel pretty good about the two i bought, i picked up a 66 F-100 4 WD at aa flea market in Billings Mt. for a $1000.00 and it was in good enough condition that i drove it home . 220 miles. but not near as good a condition as your by. has a bit of cancer here and ther. just bought a 66 F-250 from a farmer with 87,000 actual miles on it . garaged since new and only went out to feed. one owner. interior cab is in mint condition. only drawback is that it has 455 gears and the famer took the flatbed off. so it came without a box. paid 500 bucks for it. I just finished rebuilding a box that i had laying around for it. hope to get it installed this weekend. Dutch
