Well guys.. finally got a moment to put in the 6637 ... Took the old stock air box out.. took off my intake hose, cleaned it all up and tighten all the clamps. Noticed a bit of oily residue in the hose.. clean all that up.. Didn't have to cut anything out of the old air box.. Just slipped the hose over the 6637, clamped her down and stuffed it in... It just fits in nice, but if I have to put in a piece of 4" pipe things won't be as pretty !!
Did everyone put both wires that came off stock air box together on the master cylinder ????? The temp sensor (in the back side of the box)and the air filter plugged sensor (which doesn't work)(top front side of box)
Congrats on the install. I put my temp sensor on the master cylinder but my filter minder did not have any wires and the thing is useless so I did not put mine in.
Edit: I have a 2000 so they are different I believe.
Thanks Chris.. That exactly what I did !! Zip tie !
I didn't notice much difference in noise level in the cab.. A tiny bit louder, but nothing much at all... I also didn't notice much of a difference in performance or in the sound of the turbo... It's a bit better.. But not as much as others have stated here !!
Quick question since it's come up a couple of times lately. Did you unplug the wires from the temp sensor or leave the wires connected and remove the sensor from the old box?
You might as well leave the sensor plugged into the wires. Rotate it and it slides right out of the box.
Thanks Russ, I was just checking. Apparently unplugging the sensor sets off about 3 soft codes (no CEL), and the ones that unplug it seem to lose theirs.
Yes.. The 6637 is a air filter.. You can get them at Napa or some of the guys have been getting them from a place called fleetfilter I believe ?? If you do a search on this site alot of guys have done this and have pictures of them...
I run the S&B filter system and am very happy with it. I just had my system apart recently when installing the CCK mod...and it's very clean...although the filter was filthy. Swapped out the filter and Big Red is off and running.
Hey joe, kris, from alot of these post bashing k-n s-b setups, i only see dirt around the inside of the airbox, i thought the main concern if the dirt was getting through the filter media itself and going into the tube on it,s way to the turbo causing problems. Your allways going to have a dirty airbox inside. The front and sides are open to the elements. Am i missing somthing? thanks
Mike,
Look at the pic I posted above. See the dirt inside the intake tube with a finger swipe through it? That is in the tube between the filter & turbo on a K&N cone-type filter -- not the drop-in that fits the stock air box. I don't want dirt in my engine, therefore I don't want a K&N filter on the end of my intake tube. It's that simple to me. YMMV.
