id like to have dual rears on my truck, i think they look cool and it would be nice to have a drw 4x4, i dont know if it would be worth it on an f250 but it would be nice to have, i immagin traction would be improved in the winter time as well, and you could probably use load range d tires insted of e wich gives you a much broader range of tread paterns/sizes to choose from. do you have to get a differnt bed or can you just get the flares and mount them and cut out the excess, do you have to change the rear axel or can the duals be mounted to a srw axel?
actually from my underestanding dual's are worse in the winter, 4 tires pushing you straight instead of 2. Plus they are not the same width over all as the SEMI's rut's in road so throw's truck around more. That's the way my 450 work truck was.
As far as the bed, you can mount fenders and cut the excess underneith. You CANNOT mount dual wheels to a single wheel axle. You have to have spacers. Dual rear axles are wider to accomodate the dual offset. And as far as winter traction, I couldn't tell you. In Texas we only have Summer and not summer yet.
you also have to have the longer 1/2" wheel studs for the rear so that both wheels get bolted on with plenty of thread left. i bought my drw sterling 10.25 and drw D60 front axle from the same truck. all i had to do to put them in my srw F250 was remove the drw hubs on the front axle with the srw hubs on the D50 front that was on it. i have thought seriously about this on my truck, making it dually. however i want a CM SK flatbed with skirts and this would be a perfect time to do it!
i have a dually rear axle with all four wheels out of an 85 f 350 ** mine is a 97***any one know if i could just change the whole outter hub assy to make mine a dually? i have a flatbed on it already i know they call for the same brake pads? any help will be good if no where can you buy these adapters?
Just swap the dually axle in. You can't just change the outters like the front. the dually axle is physically wider by about 3" per side. The axle tubes and bearing spindles are one piece. Changing the axle is really not that hard. If you look at my thread "The Truck Thread" on like page 9 or 10 you can see the axle differences and about what it took.
Had my truck out in the snow once this winter and I did not belive how bad the traction was on my back wheels. It was really pathetic how the back of the truck was sliding around with four tires on it.
i guess i bettet stick to spacin the inside then because the 85 rear end came out of an old ryder moving truck and its low geared i run the roads lol mines a 97 im sure i have 373 in it at least thanks tho. i do need to put longer studs in tho huh? they stick out of the lug nut when i bolt the wheels on does it matter how far they are out?
