New owner of a 1965 F100 and new to this site, so much great info here!
Have a bit of trouble properly deciphering/understanding my VIN and door tag. It seems I have some conflicting results when searching.
My info is as follows:
Warranty #: F10DR637444
W.B.: 129
Color: TM
Model: F100
Body: 481
Trans: N
Axle: 08
Max GVW LBS: 5000
Cert. Net H.P. 172
R.P.M: 4000
D.S.O.: 72
I've come across the following and I'm not sure which is correct (understanding that it is an F-100, 2 Wheel Drive, made in the San Jose plant in January 1965 - I think!):
- 352 CID 2V Carb (208 HP @ 4400 RPM) - seems contradictory to what my actual plate reads?
- 292 CID 4V Carb (153 HP @ 3800 RMP)
Before ordering new parts to replace, I'd like to make sure I have my ducks in a row.
In any case, I'm more than appreciative for any info helping figure this out! Also, actual pic of my plate attached.
Welcome to FTE. You have the VIN decoded correctly. Your confusion about horsepower is because Ford showed GROSS hp (208) on the OE oil bath air cleaner decal, but was required to show NET hp (172) on the warranty plate. Here's the rest of your decode. 129 = wheelbase in inches. ™ = two tone exterior paint T = Navajo Beige, M = Wimbledon White. F100 = 5000 pound Gross Vehicle Weight rating in a ½ ton truck. 481 = beige upholstery in a Standard Cab. N = New Process 435 4 speed manual transmission with Granny first gear. 08 = 3.50 gears in a Ford nine inch non-limited slip differential. 5000 = GVW rating. 172 @ 4000 = NET horsepower rating and rpms where achieved. 72 = District Sales Office San Jose, CA. from where the original sales order was received. This is not a special order vehicle. There were no 292 engined F100 - F250 trucks for the 1965 model year. 1964 was the last year for the 292. Hope this helps.
