I know this has been talked about before but, what changes need to be made to put an EFI 302 (HO) out of a mustang in a '92 F-150. This truck has a roller block 302 in it. I am pretty sure it has a hole (at the very least) in the #7 piston. And, since I've become a mustang geek My mustang parts inventory is becoming pretty overwhelming.
The moral to the story is, I want to put a mustang HO in this truck. I figure the intake and electronics will need to be exchanged, anything else? Thanks....
Since the 5.0HO engine uses a different firing order, you will have to either change cams, or change computers (im' guessing). but it will be something along the lines of these two. Also the intakes will have to be changed out. other than that it should be fairly easy.
All you will have to change is the firing order - hook up the plug wires in the 351 firing order - the HO uses the 351w firing order, while the truck 302 uses the older 302 firing order. The trucks use speed density system and bank to bank injecting, so as long as you get the two sides of injectors hooked up correctly (and you haven't done a mass-air conversion), that shouldn't be a problem. That is assuming you use the truck computer, sensors and intake manifold.
Not sure I understand the hooking up the injectors correctly. Wouldnt' the injector harness hook up the same as stock? Would I need to use the distributor from the truck in the HO Block? Thanks for the help.
I think Ford went to a remote mount TFI in '92, so if that's the case, then I would use the distributor from the truck - just be sure to change the order of the plug wires on the distributor to the 351 firing order. And yes, just hook up the injectors like the stock truck motor and that shouldn't be a problem.
The camshaft does not have to be changed if you change the firing order at the distributor. Either distributor should fit the engine, but if the one from the HO motor doesn't plug into the truck wiring harness, I would use the truck distributor, but make sure you hook up the plug wires in the 351(302 HO) firing order. The stock truck computer with the stock injectors hooked up like stock should work fine. I think the cranks are the same, the only difference being in the cam, necessitating the need for the change in firing orders. I hope this answers your questions.
