Tire rotation?

Just curious of A) How many of you rotate your tires? B) How often? C) Which rotation pattern do you follow? (Diagonal or front w/ rear and do you include the spare? .... e.t.c) Thanks for any replies.

Every 5000 miles, rears to front, front to opposite side rear.

I've read that some with duallies only rotate the front axle.

I thought radial tires were to stay on the same side when rotating? Anyway I stopped doing the rotations some time ago and am now regretting it.....backs are twice as worn as the fronts

Now that's a good point. Certainly it used to be true that radials were to be kept on the same side, but I thought with manufacturing improvements that was no longer the case. Anyone know for sure?

Rotation

Don't forget to rotate the spare in at least once in a while - Most tire mfgs are now suggesting changing tires after so many years regardless of the miles (think its 4) leaving you with a perfectly good tire with little or no wear you'll need to throw away. Guess the rubber deteriates over time and you run a greater risk of a blowout.

What I ended up with - because I didn't rotate the spare in - was I couldn't get the same kind of tires as the OEM set for my 250 when I replaced them. Leaving my spare as the 'odd one out' - normally not a big deal but then shortly thereafter I blew the Right rear. I ended up running around for a week with one odd tire while waiting for a repalcement. Lesson learned - when switching tires consider the spare - you'll probably need it when you least expect to.

Once a year, about 8-9k miles.

If you have bigger tires or tires with an aggressive tread its a good idea to get them rebalanced every once in a while.

Every 6000 miles or every other oil change as I am not doing extended intervals yet. I check/rebalance every time. Current radial tires are no longer effected by changing the directional rotation. If abnormal wear appears on the front tires, get them rotated as soon as possible and repair the mechanical cause for the abnormality.

Wow, thanks for all the responses. I also try to rotate every other oil change (10k), but I always swapped the front w/ the rear. I have learned that the passenger side rear wears out faster than the other 3 (my right foot has nothing to do with it ). So tossing those tires back and forth, I think, has given me less mileage out of my tires. I will start the diagonal pattern when I replace these slicks next month.

I rotate one click clockwise around the truck every 5,000 miles, including the spare. So, spare to left rear, left rear to left front, left front to right front, right front to right rear, right rear to spare.

I like having a spare that has the same mileage on it as the rest of the tires, so if I ruin a tire somehow, I still have four that match.

Be careful about running an odd-sized tire on the rear, it can heat up the clutches in your LSD if you dirve it long like that.

I do like KelVarnsen above, 5 tire, only in the opposite rotation direction and the spare to the front.

Been doing it that way for years on my Jeep, every 5K, and I have gotten 60K so far on those BFG tires, probably need to replace them this summer. Never had any issues with rotation direction on radials. Done a couple rotations now on my new Ford.
