i just installed a Jensen head unit and it calls for the pink wire to connect to the emergency brake but isn't specific where. is there a way to bypass this and have the unit work when in drive. i had seen a post before but didn't print it. thanks to whomever in advance
i not sure it is a power requirement that it is looking for. thd dvd is playing but there is a message displayed on the screen that "it is illegal to watch dvd while driving please stop and set emergency brake' (not an exact quote)it is not specific where to connect this pink wire but there has to be a work around.
thanks for the quick reply
The radio needs to see a ground on the parking brake wire.... So...you need to hook it up to your e-brake switch, thus when it is engaged you can see the picture on the screen. Some Jensens require a combination, something like on-off-on-off-on....to make the screen work also. You need to test your e-brake wire...there should only be 1 at the switch...if i recall correctly. There are ways to bypass it though. I am sure you can find it thru a search on the web.
And it is very illegal...not to mention dangerous to watch while driving so don't.
The fix is simple...
DISCONNECT THE BATTERY BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING. THE POINT OF ENTRY FOR THE WIRES ARE RIGHT ABOVE YOUR STEERING SHAFT IN THE ENGINE BAY THERE WILL BE RUBBER GROMMET THAT IS EASILY REMOVED.
What you need:
1. Power Wire and Grounding Wire
2. In-line fuse holder with a 10amp fuse
3. a switch
4. Blade Connectors
The top (on position) is usually where you direct connect your power wire to the battery. The Middle prong (ACC prong) is where you Connect the "ebrake wire". Finally ground the wire to one of the green bolts in the engine bay.
Viola...flip the switch on and off until it gives you the option to play the video...
I Have a similar setup in my truck, but with a pioneer...

For what its worth...for his Jensen...he shouldnt need to do all of that. I tried to explain my first post in a way that he could figure out a way to do it without coming right out and telling him step by step how to illegally bypass it.
**Offtrack....do you really have 375/75/18's (in your sig) on your truck with a leveling kit?
I copied these instructions from a review somewhere - hope they help
"Bought this unit cause it had the touch screen. Was impressed by how good the quality is for such a cheap unit. Took me a while to get around the parking brake problem. Followed the instructions from G.Thomas on the VM9312, works for this unit also:
-switch to tuner mode
-press the setup button
-using the remote, press5 4 3 2 1 0 (hold 0 until the menu pops up)
-this will bring up a hidden menu that will allow you to turn the brake override on
-press the X in the lower left corner"
guys thanks for all the input i do in fact have the Jensen VM9312 (good unit by the way). no i don't intend to watch while i'm driving but the emergency brake hook up is a pain. I never use that except to test it once a month.
all you do is put the pink wire to a ground thats all you do find a ground or make your own thats how i have done all my in dash players and it always works and is very easy
i figured out an easier solution and it doesn't matter if the pink wire is connected or not hidden menu pops up instantly. thanks guys for all your input.
Hit Setup On Remote.
Select Language.
Get Remote And Hit 5,4,3,2,1,0.
Listen For Beeps. Touch "Hammer/Screwdriver" Logo.
Select Brake Override
Switch To Brake Override "ON"
Now Hit Setup On Remote.
And Now Watch Movies
It's not illegal to bypass it, and only in some states is it illegal to have a screen in operation while driving. In Alabama, it is not illegal.
Youtube it brother! you can find a how to for anything on there
