Well after years of wanting a 7.3 powerstroke, I bought one on Saturday! I’ve upgraded from a 96 F150 4x4 5.0 to a 2002 F250 powerstroke,Crew cab, SB 4x4. I love this thing. I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face for hours when driving home. It came with a 4 inch magnaflow and a hypertech programmer and drop in K&N filter. Planned mods include removing muffler and K&N. Replacing with straight pipe and Kwik mod. Then dp tuner. Once I get it cleaned up, I’ll get some pictures up here.
Welcome to the diesel side of the forum. Congrats on the new truck stick around here and you will find all kinds of things to spend money on. PMS is rough on the wallet LOL..
Sounds like someone's been doing their homework. I'm hoping with the hypertech you already have gauges. Lot's here hate the K&N, but if it was used properly in the right conditions you should be fine. You might want to pull the intake tube and take a peek at the turbo wheel just for piece of mind.
When I first took a look at the truck, I brough Tim with me (Hiflyer746). He's a good friend of mine and he knows these engines really well. That actually was the first thing he did, was take off the intake tube and check the wheel. The wheel took a little abuse from that K&N. So does the hypertech make the truck run a little hot then huh? There is no guages but that is 1st on the list. I don't plan on keeping the hypertech on there too much longer. It was on stage 1 and he said that's what he kept it on. I just bumped it up to stage 2 but do you recommend that i program it back to stock then?
It's best to know exactly what it's doing, but don't tow with that thing on and keep your foot out of it except for short bursts. Since you already have a decent exhaust, you shouldn't have any EGT problems. I think it's okay. You get into trouble pulling heavy up a long hill with a chip and no gauges...
And congrats & welcome! I, like you, had been eyeballing diesels for quite a while before I pulled the trigger on my '02. After a little over a year, it runs better than ever thanks to the guys & gals here. And if you think you're grinning now, wait until you get some more of the basics done. Get that filter taken care of, replace the wheel, do the in-tank mods, and get the tranny mod'ed. Then buy a DP Tuner. And hold on to your hat...
Thanks guys. I'm really happy with my purchase. It's only got 65,000 on it. I plan on running that thing into the ground like my F150.
I took out that K&N and just dropped in fram replacement air cleaner for the time being. Next step would be the wheel. I'm just keeping that hypertech on stage 1 for mileage. So far the lie-o-meter is showing 15.8 mpg but I'm waiting to fill up again do hand calculate it.
Time for a 6637! Congrats on the truck- I too recently converted to a PSD and am happy having done so! I do miss my old gasser still, but it's hard not to miss a truck as good as that one was. Hopefully this new one will be as good to me as my old 95!
I glad I converted but I just couldn't let my 96 go. I'm too attached. It was my first truck and has been so reliable. Downside of the truck is the rust at the wheel wells and extended cab. My plan is to cut it out and replace with new panels. It's a project me and hiflyer746 are going to tackle. It has such a beautiful blue paint color and I just don't see too many with that color.
