I just did with a 351w in a cj7 jeep and i would like to know what wires will need to be hooked up to get this engine running. I dont have the wiring harness but i have the coil, distributer, and module and a handfull of aligator clips. My distributer has 3 wires coming out of it into the ignition module and it connects with a plastic connection if that helps. Let me know if anyone has any tips on getting the starter aligned well because mine sounds like a dieing bird. Also can you lubricate the starter and flywheel gear or is that not a good idea because it can get on the clutch and screw it up? thanks!
The green wire goes to the coil neg. Red needs +12 with ignition on. White goes to the I terminal of a Ford solinoid. It retards timing by two degrees while cranking. The coil+ needs +12 from the ballast resistor.
There are two starters, one for automatics, one for manuals. I know of one guy that had the wrong diameter flywheel for his bellhousing.
ok i think i got the wiring covered but about the starter, i have a ford bellhousing with a 164t hayes flywheel and a starter a guy gave me at the junk yard (it says remanufactured haha) and it seems it may be a starter from a 154 tooth flywheel because it is tight and sometimes doesnt disengage. is there some number on the starter so i can see if its the right one? im going to try screwing around with some washers to see if i can get the starter aligned a bit better. and can you lubricate a starter gear or is that not good because it will get on the clutch thanks for the help man.
if anyone knows, i have a module with a 4 pin connector (male), 3 of the wires go to the distributer which has a 3 pin female connector. the other wire is the green one which goes to the coil. i am going to use alligator clips but is there some part im missing because i dont have the wiring harness and thats the only module i could get.
