My ABS light is on and failed state inspection because of it. It's been on for quite some time and the brakes work just fine. The light is not blinking. Any ideas where to search for a problem would be appreciated. Thanks!
you need to get a scanner that can pull abs codes. get the code then you will know where to start. prob going to be a bad speed sensor but you have to have the code
does your speedometer work? if it does i would check the front sensors for resistance. there should be less than 500 ohms for the front sensors, 2500 for the rear. when you turn the key does the light come on and stay on or does it come on, shut off, then come back on when you start moving?
Had the same problem, would come on at about 5mph, but at first it was occasionally after you turn the truck off the light would reset. But then it stayed.......was the right front wheel speed sensor bad.
My 99 was doing this for awhile. Then one day the speedo wouldnt register until after 15 mph. Then it got scary. The trans would literally slam itself into second gear. Ended up bein the rear speed sensor.
it sounds like a front sensor, but since it does not come on till you are moving then the resistance may not tell you anything. i would check the ohms for both front sensor and if one is alot higher than the other i would try to replace it. or if you get a code i can get you the flow chart for the code
i would have it fixed asap, after reading a post here several days ago, i guys brakes went out and he rear ended a car and totaled it,he said his abs light was on for quiet some time, needless to say they failed after time.
