Is it common for the door seals to go bad so early. I have a 04 and it sound like I'm riding in a vert half the time. Is this common, I checked them out and they are not cracked or nothing. Anyone else experience this?
my passenger side door was letting in air when driving at highway speeds. it started doing this right after the Dealership did body work on the door after it was damaged on their lot. i took it back to them yesterday and we went for a test drive and they did the "paper test". The paper test is where you open the door then but a sheet of paper in between the door and the truck and shut the door on the paper. if the paper slides out easily when the door is shut then there is a problem. they did this test and adjusted the door until it passed this test. i would say its 95% fixed now but i hate all the bs they put me through so i will just live with it unless it gets worse.
what adjustments did they make? I'm sure that is what is wrong with mine. The wife wrecked it while I was in Iraq and I don't remember it sucking wind so bad.
to be honest i have no clue. it only took the body shop guy 30 minutes. i would guess he just banged it with a rubber mallet until it passed the paper test. there were also random shoe prints on the inside of the door so maybe he had to kick it a few times. haha lol. GOOD LUCK
Ive got a buddy in Alabama that fixes a lot of these trucks after accidents. He said that due to the size of the door you can actually roll the window down and put your knee or foot into the lower portion and pull the top in and down and the door will bend enough to pass the paper test. I did it with mine and no there is zero wind noise. everything works just fine.
I wouldn't recommend touching the striker. WHile you CAN get it to shut tighter, it covers up the bigger problem. Over time, from closing the door and just general travel, the tops and bottoms of the doors bend ever so slightly outward. The top is far more susceptible to this than the bottom. It is because the frame is so small around the window and there is nothing holding it in like at the latch area.
The best fix that I have used on many vehicles for wind noise problems is to do what has been suggested. I don't leave foot prints on the door panel though! Roll the window down and gently pull on the door frame with your knee in the door midway. You can tweak certain areas as needed along the frame as well. Be careful. If you get to gungho on some doors they will suddenly give way and you will end up with a creased door and a bigger problem. Go a little at a time.
