Theres a solid steel line on the passenger side rear of the head, it carries fuel, is that the one your thinking? Or were do you think?
Well idk I guess I need to look around some more, I dont think its the main seal because of where the oil is but I look closer.
As weird as this is, and i cant explain it, one of our trucks had an oil leak that appeared to be the rear main, the air filter, yes the air filter, was plugged, replacing it made it go away. It was a 100% stock truck. It may not be your case, and like i said, i cant explain it, but it happend. See if you can find the source.
Ive got a Donaldson air filter, which is like the napa 6637 or whatever that number is. Thats clean. and ive done the ccv mod to the back. And its got a 4" straight pipe. Im gonna pull the starter tomorrow so I can see, maybe its the crankcase seal? who knows oil on the ground pisses me off. dads 97 with 210,000 mi runs awsome and dont leak and ive got way less miles.
i know exactly what your talkin about (i think). just dealt with the same problem a week ago. leaking on the starter and dripping on the ground. its a fuel line that runs from the fuel filter housing to behind the engine between the valve cover and firewall. i forget the nut size and its a pain in the *** to get to. i took off the air duct that was in the way and reached in behind and tightened it 1/8 of a turn clockwise (problem solved). i had to lie on top of the engine and reach in behind.
check to ensure your CCV hose vents properly and is not pressurizing the crank case. If that is the case, you have found your oil leak. When the crankcase cant vent properly and pressurizes, all kinds of oil leaks will spring up
Its oil I know that, Its eaither the rear main or or the oil pan seal, how hard is it to replace? any ideas what It cost to have a main seal done?
Im not sure on the price of either, but they will both probably cost you a pretty penny if that is actually what is leaking. In order to fix the oil pan, the engine must be pulled. unless you one of those that thinks cutting the engine crossmember is alright.
