It's out

I got the motor out this morning, everything went smoothly, hopefully tomorrow the new one will be in. I have to switch oil pans and fuel pumps then replace clutch and throw out bearing and drop the new one in. Any luck is will be running tomorrow afternoon.

The new engine is in and it would have been running tonight except we found a couple of crack in the exhaust manifold. So I am getting a new gasket tomorrow and switching manifolds and it should be running tomorrow provided no more surprises.

Its all gone pretty easy so far so that is nice, my buddy came out and gave me a hand today so that was nice( he worked 14 years at a Ford dealership) and yesterday my FIL was helping me.

Cracked exhaust manifolds for those 300's are a pain. They tend to crack at the back where you cannot see them.
Best to put the mainfolds on the engine while out of the truck. If in the truck use a cherry picker or block and tackle to hold in place while putting it on the engine. That is what I do. Otherwise a real pain and a lot of cussing.

I should nebntion also the two bolts that hold the intake and exhaust together tend to break off when taking apart. Then you have to tap and die them. I use the torches to heat them off.

Thanks for the tips Glen, I still have the engine lift so I will use that to put the manifolds back in place as I am leaving them together to make the switch. I need the gaskets and I can't get one till tomorrow so things are on hold now.

I know how you guys like pics, so here are a few. I lost the before pic somehow but the first pic is obivious, second is new motor and the third is the old motor. When I switched pans I could not believe how much crud was in the bottom of the pan of the old motor, must have been a half inch thick.

Thanks for the pics, good to see them and your progress.
All that crud may well have killed the motor.

Always good to see pics . Just make sure you know which motor to put in and which one to throw out.
