who in the right mind would waste money on things like this? the freakin thing looks like its been sitting at the bottom of the ocean!

Looks to me like there was water standing where it was laying.
The rusty water is what stained the aluminum.
We have a lot of both sulphur water and iron water here.
I am working on a building right now that has rust stained concrete blocks in the foundation from all the iron in the ground water.

Yes, I figured it was face down in the bottom of a steel bucket or something. I work with aluminum a lot, and it can stain easily, especially the cheaper cast alloys, and "pot metals".
