B-99

Put B-99 into the 6.0 Ex today. It was a soybean biodiesel. So far so good, it seems more quiet now. I will keep you all updated how the next months go running this stuff........ I live in Phoenix, AZ so temps are pretty warm now so should work great!

I'd love to try a tank. Yah, I know Ford doesn't recommend more than B5. That's mainly due to ignorance.

Here in IL, a LOT of B11 is sold due to State tax benefits for the dealer. Most fuel isn't even marked as such. A slight green/gold tinge to the color is all you can see.

Take Care

Can you tell me where you purchased it? I would love to start to use Bio! I am still waiting for azbiodiesel to start to sell but they are waiting on the certification. Thanks

Think warranty. D2 is more known than bio. D2 can be traced to certain manufacturers. Bio can be from a commercial source or from your backyard. Lets say they tell you that the truck can tolerate B99 and you manufacture the stuff yourself. You are a goofball and you hose it up. Because they said B99 was ok, they might be roped in to warranty your vehicle. This way, if you have a fuel issue and they see more than B5, they can say goodbye to you and walk away.

I didn't say I'd burn my neighbors homebrew. ASTM standards for commercially produced Bio are tightening and I stand by my prediction that it'll be blended into D2 at least 10%, much like ethanol in regular gas in the not too distant future.

I also believe that a list of mods such as yours is many time more likely to have warranty cancelled, when you had it, as commercially produced B99.

But how will they know whether you got homebrew from your neighbor or B99 from a good commercial source? This way, if the fuel wasn't the greatest, they are safe. You use bio and how will they know whether it came from a good place or whether you and your buddy got toasted one night while making your own stuff?

I hope not. Ethanol didn't lower the price but will lower mileage. I predict the same with biodiesel. Now if it lowers the price, I can go for it since there will be some mileage loss. I lost about 1 mpg that I was sure of, give or take, going with B40.

I agree. However, that is why I bought a USED truck and modded it when it was out of warranty. I don't expect any mercy if I brought my truck in the way it is today with a problem.

Your truck will not have a problem with the B-99. Just keep a fuel filter handy you may not notice the power loss as mine went over about 6 months but after changing the filter WOW. It's very much like when E-10 came out it cleans the fuel system and sends all trash to the filter. Have been brewing for 2 years used the IDI in the motorhome for my first test subject with no ill effects exhaust much cleaner here as well. but i wanted to wait a bit to see how the IDI ran B-4 I used in the PS. Ran my home made B100 all last summer in the pickup you will notice a reduction in tailpipe soot if you have the truck turned up(tuner) That was kinda of a let down as i kinda like the black smoke but it's better for the enviroment. I did do a plant tour of a REG Bio-D plant in Newton IA. after seeing the facility I would not give a second thought to running B-99/100 if it is ASTM rated especially seeing how well the stuff I make in the grage works!!! Now here comes the disclamer Dont try to run more than 30% mix with pump diesel if the temps get below 10- as it will gell up. Next day it got to 20 deg above it started I pumped 15 gallons out and topped it off with pump stuff no more problems.
Bottom line if it manes the ASTM AND BQ9000 you are gitten good stuff amd you truck will LOVE IT!!!

They will know, because the commercial stuff would not have caused any problems to be considered.

Mileage is a HIGHLY subjective thing, and it's possible your 1 mpg drop was a result of driving style, temperature, wind, tire pressure and any of a number of variables between tanks. The btu value of Bio is not drastically lower, like ethanol v. gas, especially in lower blends..

So far so good. I have driven 175 miles since last friday when I filled up. To be honest I can't even tell any difference at all vs. D2. Truck starts like it always has same power and the mpg readout is right where it is on every tank around 16.9 mpgs. Less rotten diesel fumes which is very nice!!

That may be. However, unless they can be sure that you are using commercial bio, they limit it to B5 for their own safety.

Well, this was at a time where I had to spend a couple of weeks back and forth between long distances. Average mileage on B40 and average mileage on D2. B40 came out 1 mpg lower. This was several tanks worth. Up to B30, the difference is slight enough that I won't consider it.
