I am looking at an 84 F600 service truck, it has an allison detroit diesel with a 5 speed
was wondering if anyone has any experiance with the detroit diesel?

Your best bet is to dig around and ask in one of the diesel forums. Some of those guys mess around with all kinds of diesels.
