hjoe,

your cam is an excellent choice and is in my workup with the same build....probably never do it though. I'm running 8.2 on 91 with a bit of timing adjustment...ret.

i was building for propane tho...but no it's over 3 bucks locally so screw that! The xe has better lift.

What I dod was had a custom hyd roller ground with basically the xe262, xe 256 combo. .520 lift on both and 212/218 @.o5o. gets it on... aus heads....9.4cr or so.

With the 4v heads it's not that expensive of a build for 485ponies....would spend more as much building a big block to get that.

Yeah its exactly my point, almost 500 hp and maybe a little tweaking for 500 lbs of torque on a 4v streateble cheap horse.... I might get my hands on such a build in a year or so, right know im full of stuff...

i tore the tranny up and haven't really finished tuning it proper...so not sure exactly how much I had to go...down to 5-6 initial i think but a different set u0p in the distributor is whats needed I think. The quench of the oz heads (or 4v) helps a lot.

Got the tranny rebuilt and ready to put it together soon I think. Maybe this weekend. Also had a less than par edelbrock carb...got a new one to put on it. I had the old one on the 351w that i built and when i put a new elec choke on it the engine really came alive so I'm thinking it really wasn't in shape for my 400.

My truck has a very heavy- home made- flatbed on it...and it was very strong...so we'll see once i can get it together and get real serious about the timing etc. I think the flatbed is going to go too.

gotta get er done so i can focus on replacing the body on the 79 bronco...picked up a rust free body thats off the frame for 300...so pumped about that!

also...i find the dcr to be variable as the measurements are off a bit...ie i measured oz heads cc at 54-55 not 62. And i've heard many if not most are closer to 55 than 60....let alone 62. So many might think their dcr is a couple points lower than it is.

Roger why dont you try a thicker head gasket, Tim sead somewhere around here he has a 0.045" one, it should help your dcr and get your timming advanced a little...
