I have heard that the 4.2 liter isnt really a motor that ever gets really good fuel mileage. I would try the normal mods though, a higher flowing air intake, maybe an econo chip.
ford did away with the v6 in '09 because the 4.6 2v gets comparible mileage with loads more power. i'm afeard you might be no further ahead by spending the 4-700 bucks...
How much driving do you do? Takes a lot of driving to make up the difference of a vehicle that gets 10mpg better.
Actually 10 MPG makes a huge difference in how much you spend on gas even when you dont do loads of driving. Unless maybe by not driving much you mean like 100KM a month or something, which I dont think is the case with mose people.
in the dead cold of winter my MPG is almost 10 points different than my summer mpg. its the difference of about 20-30 dollars a week... i guess thats a lot if you add it up, but i wouldn't spend 10g's to get a more efficient vehicle. 10g's would supply a lot of fuel. i think thats what colin's getting at.
