thanks guys. im looking to do some mods, nothing big for now. a predator tuner and maybe a wicked turbo mod, but im not sure about the turbo.
If it was me, i would skip the predator, and go straight for the dp-tuner. I used an edge on my truck for a long time (it was free) and when i got my dp i was immediately satisfied in the tranny shifting and pedal control. I wouldnt get another off the shelf tuner for our trucks.

You can buy the Predator now, and then use it for a few months. Then when you want more power, you can sell it and get a DP tuner chip. Or you can do it right the first time. Basically he is a 7.3 god. 95% of us here have one, or want one.
what does this offer over the predator? can it be used as a diagnostic toll or is it just a reprogram?
strokin i do things right the first time. but i need alittle more than opion. please try and be a little more constructive. thanks.

The only thing the predator will do, the dptuner will not, is read codes. The dp tuner is a CUSTOM multi program "chip" for your truck, with click of a button changing of tunes. He controls the auto tranny better then any off the shelf tuner, as most dont do anything to improve the shifting. He could make the pedal be really touchy if thats what you like, or nice and smooth. If you have other mods done to your truck, he will want to know, because he can adjust for things, like injectors, injector/turbo combo, big oil, just to name a few. He could also send you a dyno tune, pretty much whatever you want, he will program, and put it in the mail to you. Hope that helps.
yes that helps, thanks. has any body compared both the diablo and the dp? i was able to get diablo to provide a custom tune with my gasser. i havent heard of dp before, i owned a diablo so i am familiar with it. the diablo controls the shift pressure, modulation and line pressure plus the shift points.
There are several guys here who have had the predator, and switched to DP, and never went back. If you want, make another thread, asking about it. If you use the search function, use my username as "threads started by user" and you will see a poll i made, there are almost 100 people here who had a different tuner and sold it, went to the DP, and loved it.

The reason alot of people on FTE opions of Dp-tuner are so good is because a custom tune is alot better than anything off the shelf you can buy. I ran a Superchips in my truck once and will never do it again, all it did was just smoke alot. Then I got my Dp-tuner.....and I will never go back, its like night and day.
I had the predator programmer for about 6 months then switched to a Tony Wildman 4 position chip. www.totaldieselperformance.com. The custom chip is the way to go, I now have a $375 predator sitting on the shelf collecting dust. Use it as a code reader occassionally but I wish I would have done more research 4 years ago before buying it.
Tony's chip beat the pants off the predator as far as power is concerned. In adddition with a custom chip you can take much better care of you transmission. As far as the powerstroke is concerned the predator will increase the line pressure in your stock tranny to firm up the shifts but this is not good for the long term. If you do go with the predator make sure you set the tranny settings back to stock and protect your tranny with a valve body upgrade which will change the shifts mechanically instead of electronically. Tony made me some excellent power programs, high idle for the winter times and some great tow programs. Plus anytime you need a different program there is no charge for a reburn - it's free after you buy the chip. The custom chip is definitely the way to go since you can get the programs set for your exact needs.
Before any power chip you should install gauges (EGT & boost at least) so you don't hurt anything. Also, a better air filter system (Tymar 6637, AFE, Ford AIS) and a exhaust upgrade. If your gonna add power with a chip your gonna need more air and better exhaust.....
Since you just purchased the truck you might want to consider doing an oil analysis to get a snapshot of the internal health of your engine. They cost about $20.
p.s. I would recommend running synthetic ATF in the PS pump for your environment, much better flow when cold and helps get rid of the PS whining when your first start up.
