Glad I got it. 2004 5.4l Crew cab. Late last year ball joints. Last week starter, flywheel, sway bar links and bushings, center hanger bearing, front drive shaft, pass. side exhaust manifold due to broken bolts in the head and both O2 sensors. 86,000 miles on it so I hope if anything else goes it happens in the next 14K. I paid $1500.00 for the ford premium care esp and I think I got all of the cost plus alot more back.
Thats a great price you got for your Ext. Warr. I was going to get for my 2005 Super Duty V10 and they wanted something like 3000 for 2 more years.

I dont beat this truck at all. I do all of the regular maint. myself and tow a 4 place quad trailer several times a year trailer and quads are about 3400lbs. on the scale. This is my daily driver and I do all highway. I will be looking for a new one next year but with the price of diesel and talking to the Ford tech about how they remove the cabs to get to things that the engineers think will never fail. I'm not sure about going with a diesel or a Ford for that matter.
I am a F&I manager at a ford dealership in NC and I wanted to let you know that you can purchase Ford ESP plans AFTER your truck is out of manufactures warranty. All you have to do is have the ESP inspection done and if there are no problems with your vehicle your dealer can sell you a plan that fits.
The short answer is yes they do cost more. Remember your warranty is expired and the truck has more miles on it so there is more risk in warranting it. The actul cost depends on where you buy it.
why would where you buy it from affect the actual cost?? dont all esp plans and there variances "cost" the same?--ford dealer to ford dealer??--doesnt each dealer decide how much profit they are willing to make,or not, on said esp plans??
Hey, Tarheel! Can you give me a little more info on getting the warranty for an expired truck? I was talking to somebody who said Ford is opening up a program as you described but haven't heard anything definite yet. Some of the details were that the truck had to be less than 5 years from in service date and less than 150k. I have an '04 with 125k that has had only an oil cooler in it's Oasis history. Runs great but the warranty would make me keep it a little longer, I think, depending on the cost. BTW, I'm in Tryon, NC, are you anywhere close? Send me a private message if you'd like.

These kinds of comments bug me. Not picking on you personally, but you really have to run the numbers and decide for yourself if it's worth it. I get roughly the same mileage now as I got with my 3.0 Ranger (about 17mpg)!! Yes, I'm paying more for fuel (DAMMIT!!), but I have a whole lot more truck now. Compare the same size engine's (like a V10) mileage with diesel mileage and you'll see that diesel would have to be $5 to $6 per gallon (at today's rates) to cost the same, mile for mile. If a V10 gets 12 and my diesel gets 18 for example, that's a 50% increase in mileage. At $3.30 per gallon for gas, that's about $5 per gallon break point for diesel ($3.30 + (3.30/2) = 4.95). I just paid $3.91 -- not even close yet to the break point.
Like I said, not picking on you specifically, but I'm seeing those kinds of comments more & more here. Just do the math!
Do the math? Your math forgot the initial raping of the diesel and extra maintenance costs. You do the math!
I'm talking mile for mile. If you want to compare with my truck, then I can get 19-20 if I drive like grandpa. And I paid 21k for it. Maintenance costs are about $200 per year. $17 fuel filter, $35 air filter, two $10 oil filters, and $130 worth of 5W-40 syn oil. $202.
No need to get uptight -- just pointing out that even at $4/gal it's still cheaper **MILE FOR MILE** for the diesel.
