Crap... So if I get the same setup you're running, I have to get a new downpipe?? Or is the outlet ID bigger with the same OD?

I cannot say, I have not run the van turbo. Ask bdrummonds, rampage or jtharvey. I am sure one of them will be along before too long. Off the top of my head I would say that it should allow you to make higher boost #s without superheating the air and eliminate the surge there. At a minimum it should reduce drive pressure.

Joe, the DP bolted right up. No worries there. Oh, and yes, the ID is bigger. You can really see it on the flange on the left.

Ok. It's sort of an optical illusion in the pic -- the middle one looks a lot bigger!

BTW, why did you have both the 1.0 & 1.15 housings??

Because he is going to stick with the 1.15 and sell me the 1.0

I saw that turbo listed the other day, you will need an exhaust flange adapter avail from beans for $95 to mount this turbo to your downpipe.

as far as performance, the 1.15A/R(which I have) with stock injectors, is a little slower to spool off the line, but the mid range and higher rpm power is awesome. It will prove to be just what I wanted for a towing turbo.

So is this a freak or why does it only have a 1.00 housing when people say it has a 1.15 housing?

Its not a van turbo then. It's just a 1.0 exhaust housing for a truck (non-wastegated) and then the EBPV for the van turbine just bolted on the end. Looks like youre going to need the exhaust flange outlet adapter. No matter what size the outlet is, if its for a F truck and not an E van, the downpipe will fit.

Because the GTP38R comes with the 1.0 housing. I paid extra for the 1.15 housing and it was going to be a non-EBV, so I decided to go with a EBV delete pedestal and got that housing with the bundle. This allows me to swap housings and compare the two, and then probably sell it to Jason. The comparison won't happen until sometime after Smokin, once I am happy with my tuning.

This also allows me to retain my stock unit in it's entirety as a backup should something go wrong with the BB unit. Should something go wrong with the long block, all of it may be up for sale.

Gotcha.... Well, I'll keep my fingers crossed that nothing blows up on you. But on OTOH, you could get that CTD crammed in there you've been dreaming about.

I read at this site: The replacement turbocharger is available in three models with 0.84 A/R, 1.00 A/R or 1.15 A/R. The 1.15 A/R is standard on most Ford Power Stroke vehicles from 1993 to 1997, but the 1.00 A/R is often used in performance upgrade packages.

Why would that be though. I would have thought that the 1.15 would be the performance package while the 1.0 would not be.

Depends on the application. With smaller injectors, the 1.0 is enough. Big hybrids like Mike has can dump enough fuel to drive the larger turbo.

The OBS trucks use a completely different turbo. They dont have wastegates, so their stock housing is 1.15. A "performance" housing is a quick-spool 1.0.
