I have a 92 F-150 with an 87-91? 302 and I was wondering what the cam specs for this motor are, and just out of curiosity why did Ford put a motor in a truck that relies so much on high end?
A smaller motor can be tailored to have good low speed torque and power with smaller runner cross section and keeping velocity high. Thats why all the ports, runners, and valves are small.

True.. but a small displacement motor can only be messaged so much.

Trouble is Ford only got 2 out of those 3 right on the truck 5.0.. the intake runners are HUGH!!
Cam specs on the early 5.0EFI are sad, 0.390" lift and 250 duration at the valve. Who knows why Ford elected to smother this motor so badly, and to make matters worse they often further hobbled the vehicle with 3.08 or even 2.73 gearing. What were they thinking? The 5.0 should have never been available in a truck with anything less than 3.73 gears IMO, I'm pretty sure you won't see any of the 4.6 trucks with less than 3.55 gears. These small V8's can deliver pretty good milage and performance when properly equipped, and are even usefull as trucks with the right gearing.
Thanks I was thinking about putting an RV cam in it to lower the powerband. Assuming I did that and no other work to the heads, intake, etc, would I get any kind of a gain and where could I expect the powerband to be?
The stock cam is technically an RV cam.. though a small one. Just about any aftermarket RV cam you can buy is an upgrade, and the motor will make more power, though the overall powerband won't change much. Longtube headers seem to produce the most low rpm gains, but outside that you really have to gear the vehicle for the intended use and where this motor makes best power.. above 2500rpm.
