I had a dream last night where I took my F250 5.4 with an automatic tranny in it, and swapped it with a manual. (and then there were some other stuff in the dream too...)
so when I woke up this morning, that's all thats been on my mind, and wondering if its even a possibility, and whats involved. Even though I'm very happy with my auto, the idea is now stuck in my head...
Anything can be done if you have enough time, money and the right parts.....but that doesn't mean it's a good idea.
Aside from the transmission, you'd need the clutch master cylinder, clutch pedal assembly, a new steering column, a shifter and you'd need to cut a hole in the floor for the new shifter. The truck's computer will also have to be reprogrammed for a manual transmission.
Oh, you'll also need a manual transmission cross member.
Is your truck a 4x4? Better check to see of the transfer case will bolt up to the new tansmission.
You may need a new engine, or at least a new crankshaft. I don't know if all of the 5.4L engines have crankshafts that are drilled for a pilot bearing.
Why would you want to do this? You're not only lowering the value of the truck, but also lowering the towing capacity.
