Samsung 500 Question

I am going to the Samsung 500 at Texas Motor Speedway in 3 weeks, and I was just curious if there is a souvenir place where you can buy your favorite drivers hat, shirt, etc. First time to a race and not sure how everything works yet. Thanks!

There will be semi trailers set up everywhere to buy anything your little heart desires. I went to Michigan two years ago. Good times.

If it is any thing like Bristol was,you will have access to every driver's souvenir/t-shirt trailer. Bristol had them lined up in rows in a parking lot a little ways outside of the track. Do you have a scanner so you can listen to the drivers/teams talk to each other? Makes the race a lot more interesting then any tv announcer can make it!! The texas track may not be quite as loud as Bristol was,but ear plugs/ear muffs are necessary if you don't want to be deaf after it is over!! I bought set of the ear muffs that had speakers built in that plugged into my scanner. Ear protection and headphones at the same time, worked great!! At bristol, you could scream at the top of your voice and the guy beside you couldn't hear you when the race was not under caution. under caution it was still loud, but you could take the headphones/plugs off and talk for a couple minutes. I had the chance to buy the tickets again this year(for yesterdays race) but don't have the spare vacation days to burn this year or the extra money to enjoy the trip. If you are a nascar fan,you will not regret taking the time to go to a race. lots better in real life,tv just doesn't do it justice!!

You will see the driver souvenir trailers most likely when you just walk in. You cant really miss them. There is a bunch of them. I have to agree with cjben. A scanner IMO makes the race much more enjoyable. I know some people don't were plugs or headphones but I did not once at martinsville and my ears rang for a week after that. You can rent a scanner at the track that actually have little tv screens on them also.

I went to the Dickies 500 last fall. You won't be able to miss the trailers, there will be both driver and team trailers. Manufacturers as well. My advice is to go early. If you're staying to the end of the race, plan to be there a long, long time. Highway access to TMS stinks. We left before the end of the race for that very reason. This assumes of course that you're just going for the day and not taking an RV in.

The following is just me - when TMS first opened, I really wanted to go to a race. This was my first trip and only because the ticket was free. As I've gotten older, I have developed a distinct dislike for crowds. I did not particularly want to go to the race, kind of a case of had to.

I do like to watch racing - at home.

I had finish line seats five rows up at Michigan several years ago. I also thought ear plugs were for wusses. It tooks weeks for the ringing to leave my ears. The sights, the sounds, the vibrations, the smell... You'll have a blast!

I took some laps at TMS in the #11 Fedex car fitted with a passenger seat. The speed and the wall were interesting, but the thing I remember most was the noise ..... those cars are really loud.

Thank you all very much for your responses. I have thought about scanners, but never really looked into them...I will now.

I am planning on getting there early so I am not "rushed" going through everything. I am sure my wife won't be too excited as that just gives me more time to spend more money!

I have been to some short dirt track races in Southern NM, I am sure those won't come even close to comparing to the Samsung 500. Again, thank you all for your responses, I am extremely excited!

How much are the scanners to rent? I saw some on ebay that are the same as what that they sell on nascar.com that are $47.00. seems like a pretty good deal, just wondering if its more worth it to buy or rent.

I believe it is $50.00 for one day for the FanView one.
