I'm curious as to who has had no problems with thier '04-'08 F-series or SUV's. This is a great site where we are able to share and compare loads of info on our rigs.
Much of our postings inherently concern defects, problems that develop over time, new applications or in some cases, things that we've done wrong ourselves.
I must say that up until I joined this site, I was hell bent on getting a new truck. Now, I'm not so sure. I've been FAIRLY lucky with my Expy but it only has 50K. Drivers window still squeals after 4 attempts to repair. Had 2 problems with rear air. At 800 miles, the rear axles developed a vibration. It was the anti-lock umpty squat that was messing up.
I'll never change from a Ford truck, but they do need to earn my business.
Just looking to re-invigorate my confidence.
I've only spent $300 on my '88 in the last five years and that was for a new front tank, pump and sending unit.
I have an 07' supercab lariat 150 darkstone/pueblo gold that has been perfect in every way granted it has low mileage but the truck is just built rock solid I would not hesitate for a second on buying another Ford truck
I've had one plastic cowl replaced, and a wire that came off the defroster control, nothing that would make me not buy another...of course i'm only at 20000 miles on my 07, my 05 never needed any warranty work.
My '07 Screw was the best thing that I bought so far. I have had it 1 year and 3 weeks and it has 10,300 miles and it has been GREAT! I went through it this past Sat. and checked over the entire truck while changing the oil (kinda like an annual physical)and saw absolutely nothing wrong with it. The brakes are still like new and the tires are wearing perfectly. Would I buy another one? YES!
07 scab 15k no problems (knock on wood)
Previous 03 scab one idiot light problem only
previous 01 Exp. sport 40k no problems
previous 98 scab impeccable.
my 04 has had no problems and it has been through alot. i don't buy a truck to baby it. i just wish i had pictures of the things it has done. some of them i wouldn't believe if i hadn't been there driving it. when they say built ford tough they mean it
... I have to say the trucks are good, but not flawless. Had an '02 Lariat S'crew that was mechanically perfect after 45K. Just changed fluids and tires/brakes on that one. Then I decided to upgrade to the '08 Lariat with the moonroof and interior luxury goodies. Only 6K miles on the '08, but I'm a happy camper so far...
The flaws in the 02 were the same as the '08 though and it's the exterior plastic stuff... Cheap cowl vents over the windshield wipers popped up on my 02 and the seals around the rear window came loose as well. On my 08 (built Aug 07), same thing again with the cowl vents and also plastic trim issue on the rear bed rail and driver's side grab handle coming apart from the dash. All of these were fixed under warranty with zero out of pocket cost fortunately.
I also had an '93 Explorer in my past that was a POS (that had lots of mechanical issues with engine seals, A/C, etc.) so I can see how you're concerned. All I can say, is the F150 is Ford's bread and butter so I THINK there's more attention to the big trucks and I've bought 2 of 'em.

I couldn't agree more. My 03 Sport-Trac (I was experimenting) mileage wasn't much better than my 08 F150, and the dealership mechanics got to drive it more than I did. 4.10 axle chatter, XMSN had to be replaced, electrical problems galore, and 2 fuels pumps later, I got rid of it.
I have a 2005 Lariat Super Crew, dark stone metallic two-tone. Just clicked over 50,000 miles and so far so good. One of the best vehicles I have ever owner. No issues or problems. I get nothing but compliments on its ride and looks...especially the interior.
Coming from Eddie Bauer explorers my whole life, the amenities of this truck are great.
I've got 45km or 25k miles on my 06 4X2 S/crew, no major troubles yet. Just had it in Fri for it's first warranty claim. It had a driveline vibration and when checked the weights on the driveshafts had been thrown off. The tech said this was common and ordered 2 new driveshafts. Also the hood latch was screwed and the dash cup holder needed to be replaced. That's been the only trouble so far and I'm very happy with the truck, just wish gas would go down so I could afford to drive it. Till then stuck in my 94 Topaz for a winter/ comuter car.
My aunt has had 0 problems with her 06 F-150 Lariat S/crew. My uncles 04 F-150 Fx4 S/crew has only had one problem, diffs seised or something like that (warranty repair).
Almost 15 months now on my 2007 base-model F-150, and a whopping 3500 miles. I like the truck more every day. Really, though, there's no guarantee no matter how much research you do or how much you spend, that you will buy a trouble-free vehicle. All vehicles require maintenance and repair, some more than others. The bottom line is, you will either have a car payment or a repair bill, assuming you also have a warranty that will last as long as the payments. Going back to the men of yesteryear who traded every two years, they were pretty smart. They never even had to buy tires or do a brake job, but they had a car payment for life. So what? They always had a new car, dependability and no worries. We bought a pair of compact SUVs in November of 2002, figuring on getting ten years out of them. They both have about 60K on them now and have been paid for since December. Once you make a decision like that you're stuck with it. If it breaks down, you've got to fix it even to sell it, but then you'll lose the money you just paid to repair it, so you end up keeping it longer. The whole key is if you really like the vehicle and it does what you need done - in that case, it's worth putting money into. You have to judge every vehicle you get at the one year and two year points to decide whether to keep it or not. Looking back over 45 years of new and used cars, I'd have to say that it makes more sense to figure on having a car payment for life and always drive a new, reliable vehicle for your primary transportation. For a secondary vehicle, like the pickup truck is to many, you buy to keep. Buying a clean two-year old vehicle that the other guy just traded in is a good strategy too for those who want to save money on vehicles. It's just broken in, has taken it's greatest depreciation hit, has probably had any problems already worked out and retains a factory warranty.
