Question Time for new tires

i have been reading everything i can around here soaking up all the shared knowledge. We have had our Ex now for 3 weeks, and LOVE it. It is a Limited, so i like the wheels it has, i am running BFG's on it now that need to be replaced in the next month or so. On my previous truck i was running 10ply Nitto Terra Grapplers Heavy Half ton 4x4 chevy. I have been told that the Nittos do not hold up well to the heavy weight of the diesel...so what is everyone running with 10 plys and at least a MT rateing. thanks for any input!!!

I'm running TOYO Open Country ATs 265/75/16. Had them for about 2000 miles and they seem to be fine.

They are hands down better than the Daton Timberline ATs that were on the X when I bought it.

I've run BOTH Dayton Timberlines & Toyo Open Country The Daytons Are made by Bridgestone, and I've gotten right around 90,000 to 140,000 But The Toyo's are far superior for long distance OTR hauling. I've gotten more then 150,00 miles on two or three sets of Toyo's,I'm currently looking for some New Toyo"s for my E-350 Super Duty XLT 15 Pass. Van.

Firestone Transforce A/T's Just got a new set in the fall and love em. I have towed my 10k lb travel trailer with them and they provide very good stability (they are 10 ply, E-load). I have also traveled on some very snowy/slippery roads and they also provide excellent grip. Good tires for the price!!

after running a gravel / rock through one of the the firestone tires, i needed new tires ... i bought a new set of gillette kodiak 10 plys. $494.00 out the door, with road hazard, mounted and balanced and free rotation. it stiffened the ride quite abit. waiting to hook up the camper and tow now.

If you look at the Nitto Tires thread, there was a gentleman that got 50-60K miles out of his Nitto TG's. I bought a full set of them myself, and have just now had them installed just last week. So far so good.

Theres a whole bunch of opinions on tires here. My advice, and I think most would agree, buy the best tire you can afford. Cheap tires rarely turn out to be a bargin. If you can spare the money for Michelins, you can hardly go wrong.

No trying to hijack, but do the 285's wear ok on the 7" wheels? I am looking to replace my 265 bfg rug trls with something else. I know the Mich LTX is the smart choice, buit I love the look of the ATkos'. Is the 285 ok to run and not have irregular wear patterns?

2003 my dad ran three sets of 285 BFG KOs on the Ex before I got it and he never complained of odd wear and I didn't notice anything either. They sure do look good on an EX too.

whjco, I have those Michelins on mine now. They last forever on the road, which is nice, but you get stuck if you look at wet grass. If these tires will ever wear out I'm going back to BFGs. I can still get 50-60,000 out of BFGs

I have had Good Year Wraqngler Silent Armours on my Ex for about 20,000 miles, and had them on my 98 Expedition. I had over half the tread left on the Exp and already had 50,000 miles on them. I could not wait to get a set on my Excursion when I bought it, they are the best tires I have ever used, snow sand, road and even some mud. I woud recommend a set, a bit pricey but with tires I think you generallyget what you pay for.
