I have a 07 F250 2wd work truck with a 5.4. I change the oil every 5K. I am considering switching to synthetic blend, 5w20 Motorraft. Has anyone used this oil? Can I extend the oil change intervals? any good things, or problems? As I said this a work truck, and would like it to last as long as possible.
I wouldn't extend intervals on it no matter what oil you use. I used 5w20 for about a year and felt it was just too thin and went back to 5w30, but I change mine at 4K no matter what.
yeah i certainly wouldn't extend your intervals cause its a work truck, and i wouldn't think a synthetic oil would work anybetter on a regual 5.4 cuz its not a performance motor, a regular 5w20 would work just fine and if u want the extra protection in the summer use 10w30
According to used oil analysis Motorcraft 5W-20 on BITOG(bobistheoilguy.com) does real good in these engines doing a 5,000 mile oil change interval. If you want to extend the oci look at the used oil analysis section of BITOG to see how various oils performed. Then you can judge for yourself what's good for you.
I switched to 5W-20 about 40k miles back (from 5W-30) due to the Ford TSB, #02-1-9. Better mileage, better wear properties, better starting. I use Motorcraft Synth Blend, 5W-20, cheap at Walmart.

...except maybe Amsoil dealers 8-)
I've used it in my '02 E150 4.6 since new and it's been just great. I would probably stick with 5k change intervals, which I think is the severe duty official change interval.
Motorcraft 820S filters, for a number of reasons, are also the best thing to use on the mod motors.
And if you properly document the changes, there will never be any question regarding the new truck warranty--but I would use the Motorcraft oil and filters even if warranty were not a consideration.
There's an oil forum on this page and you're welcome to do some more reading if you'd like.
Been using the Motorcraft 5W-20 Synthetic Blend since day one on my 2002 Expedition, 5.4L with the FL-820S Motorcraft oil filter. I change my oil every 5K and I'm sticking with it.
I switched to 5w20 full synthetic from reg. 5w20 7 noticed a puff of smoke @ start ups & used about 1.5 QTS. every 3000 miles. Went back to reg. 5w20 no problems.
Never use anything thicker than 5w-30 and never use anything but a Motorcraft oil filter unless you want to buy a new motor! The idiot I bought my truck from used thick oil and cheap oil filters, it ran great with 100k on the clock but lost oil pressure 3 days after I bought it with no warning. Ford will voild your warranty if you use anything but a Motorcraft filter. I have a friend that is a parts manager at Ford, the cheap oil filters come apart and clog the check valve/oil pump.

are you serious dude? warranty is only good for 36k miles first of all. second of all ive been using stp/ firestone/ fram filters for 70kmiles, and on countless other vehicles.
to the O.P. question. ive never heard of anyone having a problem with there engine in result to the brand of oil they use. its all personal preference, however do not used anything heavier than 5w-30. 10weight oils are toooooo thick for these tighter clearance motors. ford doesnt reccomend it for fun!
