This is my first post. I have a shudder problem. When I accelerate moderately to heavily from a complete stop, there is a shudder and sort of a thud. I assumed it was the slip yoke, so I pulled the drive shaft and lubed the hell out of it. Same problems. I also recently changed the transfer case fluid. Does anyone have some sort of solution? Can the limited slip clutches cause this shudder in straight line acceleration? It is a 2004 FX4 supercrew. Thanks in advance! Matt
The torque converter clutch doesn't engage at low speeds, so we can elminate this as a possible cause.
Take off shudder is usually a driveshaft/ujoint/pinion angle problem.
Thanks for correcting me Mark, tell you the truth I don't even know why I posted that since I already know the converter clutch wont engage until 3rd on most applications lol. I guess its one of those days the brain does not wanna function so great.
well, I removed the driveshaft, and greased the heck out of it again, and it seemed to keep the thud, and or bump/shudder at bay. We'll see. I must not of used enough grease the first time. I read the TSB on pinion angle, and I was wondering how you would change the angle? Do you put wedges between the springs and the axles? I know it calls for a 1 degree wedge.

Yeah but you never said, if it is a Manual or Automatic transmission........
If it is a manual, your clutch could have no free play and its being slightly disengaged, or its just worn out.
If it is an Automatic most likely you have a bad clutch pack or a plugged filter and if you caught it in time all is okay, the more they slip the worse they get. Or it could be low on fluid, could be valving problem, broke pressure regulator spring, pump going out, yeah theres lots of things it could be.
