wow, yall make me feel better about doing stupid things.
one time i was reaching in to check the belt tensioner on a running mack truck engine and slipped. my hand stopped the clutch fan.
another time, while tack welding a plate on a truck body with the mig welder in a tight area i brushed against the wire control, turning it up to "hyper-drive".
then i tripped and pulled the trigger on the stinger trying to regain my balance, and the wire shot out of the stinger, penetrating the glove of my other hand, shooting rite through the palm of my left hand from thumb to pinkey, coming out of the glove striking the grounded work.
this grounding caused the wire to glow cherry red before i realized what was happening and let go of the stinger.
i then had to call across the shop for someone to bring a set of side cutters to release me from the welder/body, so i could drive to the hospital to get the piece of wire removed from my hand.
once in the hospital, i had to deal with the head nurse in the E.R.(my cousin) who gave me a ration of crap about most people getting the ears and noses pierced, not their hands.
cause the wire was red hot, it cauterized the wound, and it took almost a full year to heal and close the hole in my hand.
... I casually reached down and pulled them out,as my nieghbor (who was now holding the nailer) proceded to shoot a nail through his hand and nail himself to the fence.
We are no longer allowed to play construction together...
Didn't Gene post a pic of himself missing a front tooth from working under his truck a while back?? I can't remember exactly how it happened, but I remember that pic vividly...
the tool under you hood used for lowering the spare tire (the one with a little J at the end of it) is for taking off hub caps on our trucks. It works great, stick it in the slot, and lightly tap on the bar (its a few feet long)

dang!!! and here all these years i thought that was for popping the pop-tops on my beer cans when my fingernails were broke short!!!
Nic, sounds like you read the instruction book......
actually i recently rotated my tires and i wasnt having luck with the screwdriver and couldnt remember what i had used previously. Then i was like, wait a minute, there has to be something that fits in that slot so i checked with all of the tire changing tools. Sure enough...

My little wonder bar works better: been there, done that!

ill have to try the wonder bar, but i cant imagine it works better than the tool designed for it. the caps come right off with it, without damaging them or the wheel.

C'mon Nic. If we all did things the right way all the time what would we have to talk about here?
I have never laughed so much while feeling so much pain and at the same time feeling at home as I have reading this thread. I will be giving rep points to all the ones that freely admit they are not the smartest folks in world when it comes to safety. Not going to elaborate but I can relate to most of the things mentioned, except maybe the two nails in the calf, but that's hard for anyone to top. Just wandering how many of you have ever toasted your fingers when a wrench crossed the post on a battery and you had to pull it off. No reason I ask, just wandering, although typing is a bit difficult the last couple of days.

doing that is just plain stoopid!!
now if you had said how many of you grabbed a pair of vice-grip welding clamp pliers while not wearing gloves, 30 seconds after you just got done gas welding a patch panel on a fender , and realized it was HOT, HOT, HOT and then opened your hand to drop it, and the still lit torch, with the flame raking across the 4 fingers of your open hand as it fell to the ground, i would have to say..........................NOPE, NEVER DID IT, AND THERE WAS NO ONE THERE TO SEE IT HAPPEN TO CALL ME A LIAR!!!
and that was another time my cousin the E.R. head nurse called me a jackass.
