I've heard claims all over the place for everything except the 6.4L, which gets the worst MPG especially when running empty (thanks to the DPF and the size of the new superduties). I suspect 20 MPG is doable for the 7.3 and 6.0 powerstroke, but since I will never know that first hand, I will never know for sure. The cost of new injectors is more than enough to keep me from trying to learn more about them. Having to pull the valve covers just to access the glow plugs or injectors is where I draw the line.......

Thanks David85, I've been going with the IDI to avoid the electronic controls and am fairly satisfied with that theory of simplicity. Occasionally during the immersion in the diesel topics, tips like the ones you just mentioned come along to confirm the convolution of high $ hassles with the powerstrokes. Current problem was that one came up for sale that caught my guarded interest, I'll look at it for the sake of some familiarity training but will stay with the IDI program.

This copied from another thread but I feel it is worth spreading the word.

A warning should be given here. Brown's Gas as these things generate is a perfect mixture of Oxygen and Hydrogen. IT IS VERY EXPLOSIVE!!! The idea of running an engine entirely on it is conceivable, but you must realize that the rate at which the pure stuff burns is many, many times faster than any multi molecule fuel. Therefore, the timing has to be retarded to after TDC or it will act as though you advanced the timing to the point of stopping your engine if not blowing it apart. The benefit of the amount of HHO is to act as a Catalyst (assists) in burning ALL of the fuel injected. So small amounts are good but too much can cause severe damage if adjustments aren't made to compensate for the increased burn rate.

There is an excellent website on the subject http://www.bobboyce.org/ that will be of great benefit. Bob Boyce has run engines on pure HHO and he gives a design of a system that works and explains the whole scenario regarding Brown's Gas Generation. Oil Companies LOOK OUT!!!

U TUBE has demos of various HHO cells in operation if you want to check it out further.

For anyone looking to run their engine entirely on Hydrogen however produced, you really need to read Bob Boyce's comments on running an engine on HHO at: Bob Boyce's Electrolyzer Plans Available to All.
