Hi gang. I just did a Tune up and a Tranny oil change. After this jobs done I spected to get a better MPG. So far I've been getting 15 MPG for city driving.. Is this ok or my Explorer is just guzzling due to something else?
1995 Eddie Bauer
171 K miles
What else should I check? how can I improve my MPG?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 07-Jun-02 AT 10:19 AM (EST)]15 is average for an Explorer in the city. One the highway, you should get around 17/18. There was a thread about increasing mpg a few days ago. Having a 95 with 171,000 and being a 4x4, I don't know of a way you can really increase mileage any really. There has never been an Explorer designed that was built to get great gas mileage. They are a heavy multi-purpose vehicle that is not aerodynamically designed. Plus neither the v6 or v8's put in them were designed for it. They were designed to have good power for matching what the vehicle can do, plus get a good average fuel mileage.
I will take a trip to the Rockies within a month and I will Experience my first trip with my Explorer. This way I will measure up the Highway milleage.
thanks for your response. I was glad to know my Explorer is "eating" normally and there's nothing wrong with it.
