Hey All
I have a 2006 Super duty 1 ton
I went to start my truck the other day and it went click, click, thunk! So I tried again and it started...however, blue thick exhaust came pouring out and the truck sound like it was going to explode..Yikes!.. The light on the dashboard came on saying ' TDC fault' So i shut off the truck and left it. Any suggestions?
TDC fault means that your motor is not reading the top dead center. maybe something jumped. A loud thunk coming from the motor is not good. This must be a diesel?
Yeah its a diesel do you think the piston hit the top of the cylinder?
The only way a piston can hit the cylinder head is if the lower rod bearing would have fallen out. I've seen that happen before on a motorcycle where the rod bearing spun and ended up on top of the upper half of the rod bearing. I owned that bike and saw it first hand. I'll take a look through my Diesel manual to see if there is any mention of it.
Are you sure it is a TDC fault and not a DTC fault?
I just looked through my Ford manual. There is no mention of a TDC fault. If it is in fact a DTC fault. You will need a code reader to find out which DTC fault you have. I do have a list of the DTC codes if you find out what it is.
I had a problem with my 2006 6.0 with hard starting. Took it to the dealer here in Weslaco, TX and they found a couple of O rings needed replacing that was causing a pressure drop in the injectors. It cost me the $100 copay and Ford paid the rest since it had 45000 miles on it. The 100,000 mile warranty took care of the rest.
Supertruckgirl, try your post under the 2004-2007 6.0L thread and you will likely get the answers you are looking for. My guess would be that it may be the cam sensor is outta whack.
