I just got home and was flipping through the channels and came across the trucks. I dont really watch trucks anymore without stacey david, but there was a sweet first gen lightning on there.
They were going to take the stock forst gen lightning and compete against a 1990 chevy 454ss. Both trucks they said came from the factory with under 250 horse.
Man I cant wait to see the end of this little competition. Im sure the lightning will win, but its got a good competitor with the 454ss!
Should be good viewing. What are they going to do with them - stock / mods?
I drove a few of those 454SS trucks and tried to get a special order 4x4 model but the days of special ordering were long gone by then.
I dont know much about those first Lightnings but my friend Rob is on his second newer gen Lightning. I think his is a 2003 and he originally had a 2000 or 2001. I cant recall the years so I could be out by one or so on these. The newer one is a rocket! He has under 10000 kms on the new one.
sure will be an interesting race. i think the first gen Lightnings were N/A right?? i'm not sure who'll take that one, the chebby out-cubes the Ford, but those fords have a lot of heart!!
The ford was a 351w with gt40 heads and intakes. Thats pretty much all they said about it. I did just catch the end of it and Im not sure if they were gonna mod them up and what all kinds of competitions.
The lightning was red, and maaaaaaan was it ever nice!
Makes me wonder if I should do a "lightning" type clone with my reg cab shortbox.
The first generation Lightnings were not near as fast as the next and more wicked generation, the fastest stock truck at the time.
Now the Roush line and some others have taken over and are among the fastest ''stock'' truck out.
A Lightning clone would be awesome, go for it!
lb for lb...i wish they'd at least put a 460 against it... not that i don't have faith in that lightning, but there's often no replacement for displacement...
The 460 was only in '75 - '79 F150's the F-100's only had a 351 as the biggest engine. and After '79 I think you could only get the 460 in a 250 and up. I don't know about a late '70's shortbox with a 460, they could have made one.
