Can't get SuperDuty to enter 'program' mode

When I bought that '99 F-250 SuperDuty, it only came with one key and one keyfob.

So, I had another key made (no chip in key, btw!) and ordered 2 more keyfobs.

I've followed the instructions to the letter.
I cannot get the truck to go into 'program mode' to program the new keyfobs.

I've also ordered (and received) new door locks, ignition 'lock', since the key to start the truck doesn't work in the doors.

Strange.
Anyway, the original owner said that he had to have the ignition 'lock' replaced and he lost the door keys.
(I've known this guy for 30 years. I believe him when he says that he lost the keys!) Ha!

Can someone tell me the proper way to get this truck into 'program mode' so that I can program all 3 keyfobs?????

Thanks.

this is the proper procedure, however keep in mind if your door locks aren't working you wont hear them cycle

1. Turn ignition from OFF to RUN 5 times within 10 seconds, with the 5th time ending
in RUN. Door locks will cycle to confirm programming mode.

2. Within 20 seconds press any button on first keyless remote. Door locks will cycle
to confirm programming.

3. Within 20 seconds, press any button on second keyless remote. Door locks will
cycle again to confirm programming.

4. Turn ignition to OFF. Locks will again cycle to indicate end of programming mode.

i could be wrong but i believe you need two to program a third... You can't program 1 with 1. So i think you may be SOL and have to have the dealer do one, then you'll be able to program a few more.

That is exactly the procedure that I'm doing, but, after the 5th 'cycle' between off and run, the door locks do not confirm that I'm in the programming mode.

It is my understanding (I could very well be wrong!) that since the keys are not 'chipped', that it doesn't matter how many keys/keyfobs that I have, to begin with.
I have read that I can program up to four (4) keyfobs.

I just can't get this truck to go into programming mode.

Just follow this video.

As you watch it, there will be text on the variations of the different vehicles.

On my 03 Superduty you have to leave the drivers door open or it will not go into program mode. I have to cycle the key 8 times with the door open, which locks and unlocks the doors {program mode}, and then hit a button on each key fob, without turning the ignition switch back off. I hope this helps. There seems to be many variants reported on the internet, which I am sure are correct for some makes and models.

That is true for the PATS system, but this truck doesn't have PATS.

You are correct.

cycle the key from OFF -> RUN -> OFF

8 times

on #8, stop in the RUN position. door locks will cycle. press a button on each of the remotes

take key to OFF to exit programming mode

this procedure works on darn near every Ford produced since 2000. Not sure where this "5" cycles thing comes from. 8 is the magic number

screen capture of the Owners Manual

and here is a big convoluted PATS thread I did a few years back. Obviously your truck doesn't have PATS, but the programming and general info is good IMO

Thanks, everyone.
I'll try it this evening, when I get home from work.

I was thinking about this while pouring a cup of coffee at 5:00 a.m., this morning.

This truck has a "Tuner" kit installed in it. I think the previous owner said that it was an El Diablo "Predator" kit?????
(Right now, it's programmed for "Tow" - about 20 or 30 more hp.)

Would that 'tuner' prevent the truck from going into 'program mode' for the door locks?!?!?!?!?

Should I restore the original 'factory' tune before programming the keyfobs, or, is this a totally different module?

???????????

Sorry I keep forgetting Ford didn't put PATS into the SD until much after all their other vehicles.

The tuner has no effect on the remote entry system. Completely separated sub-systems.

Well, no joy.

Yesterday was the first chance I got to try to program the new/additional keyfobs, again.

I followed the instructions given..... to the letter. Truck did not go into 'programming' mode.

I tried the key off/on 5 times, per one set of instructions. (Keyfob supplier's instructions.)
I tried the key off/on 8 times, per one set of instructions. (Tylus' instructions.)
I tried the key off/on 10 times, per another set of instructions.

I tried this with the door open.
I tried this with the door closed.

I tried this after manipulating the lock on/off manually.
I tried this after manipulating the lock on/off, using the door switch.

I tried this with my tongue in my mouth.
I tried this with my tongue hanging out of my mouth, panting like a thirsty dog!

I'm almost ready to give up and take this truck to the dealership and having them program the keyfobs.

Keyword....... almost.

What now??????? I'm out of ideas.

I would like to know when and how you resolve it. I spent days trying to get my F350 to enter program mode before I called the dealer and they told me to try it with the door open. My other 3 Fords go into program mode after cycling the key s 8 times with the doors closed.

Are you sure you are going from OFF to RUN each time?

It's relatively easy to go from OFF to ACC

Alternatively, your VSM could be bad. That controls the door keypad and remotes. Mine went bad about 2 weeks ago. Makes your rig do weird stuff
