engine stand - pics or drawings

Beam deflection of 2" round solid rod:
[Weight x (length ^3)] divided by 68,295,000
Length is the distance from the "fixed" point of the beam and include entire length of engine. One thing to consider for the rating of the bearing is the further the engine is from the bearing the weight will increase. Think levers. I doubt total deflection is more than 0.050". I'd get bearings with at least double the capacity you plan on having on the stand. At least on the front bearing.
Another thing to consider is drilling a hole in the center of the mounting plate like on the pics above. Put a 1/4 to 3/8" 45deg bevel on the end of the rod. Insert thru the mounting plate and weld it flush on the "engine" side. A press fit on the rod would be best. Also weld rod at the back side of the mounting plate as well. Doing this will ensure the weld is NOT the weak point of the mounting plate.

If any else wants to build one, it is cheao and simple to get a used S cam and a junk slack adjuster, instead of using a gearbox. It will pretty much lock itself in any position, and you just use a 9/16 socket tu turn your engine.
These are in the scrap pile of any truck and trailer shop.
