Need help deciding--
Replacing OEM 30.5 gallon tank to get more range.
I can't take up bed space so I have to change the OEM tank.
The Titan is plastic and needs a $100 skid plate option, they rate it at 50-52 gallons.
The Transfer Flow is 47 gallons and is steel. (and about $150 cheaper)
Any difference on the install?
Durability issues?
Leakage issues?
Fuel gauge or MPG meter problems?
Thanks for any info...This is my first time, and I feel a little awkward....
I have a Transfer Flow 46 in my truck. I paid just under $1000(no shipping as I live near the factory in Chico,CA) but I love the extra 20 gallons and the steel tank vs the original plastic. The FX4 skid plate gets removed, and the new tank comes down to about the same height as the old skid plate. No real clearance loss. The kit is excellent all straps, bolts, vapor recovery (I have a 6.8 Liter Gas truck), etc... are included. The instructions aren't great, but if you lay it all out it is pretty simple. A buddy and I did the install in about 3.5 hours in the driveway. If you have access to a motorcycle jack or something similar to hold the tank in place it helps.
I have no experience with Titan but I am a big fan of Transfer Flow.
Installed the 46 gallon tank myself in October 05. I used a regular floor jack but a motorcycle jack as suggested would have been much better to balance the tank during installation of the straps. I had mine Line-X coated on the bottom and sides in case I drag it over rocks, etc.
