I'm redoing the interior of my truck, an '81 F150 XLT. I can't figure out how to remove the very top piece of trim (horizontal piece above the windshield). There are no visable screws, so it must be some form of clip in there, anyone have suggestions?

Yes, it is clipped in and held by metal fasteners. Be careful when removing as to not bend it. It will come out. I have removed mine several times and it has gotten a little easier to remove. The first time I removed it to install my new headliner, I thought I was going to bend or break it, but evenutally it popped loose undamaged. IIRC, there are 4 clips

How did you remove it? Did you just wiggle it until it got looser, or slide some type of tool behind it or something?

When I removed mine I just alternated between pulling the top and bottom out and worked my way along. It didn't come right out. I had to go back and forth a couple of times. I forgot who was saying something about manual window regulators but I think I still have both of the ones that came off my sons truck. I will check. If so I will post and let you know. As for taking the dash out of the truck. Be patient and take your time. I pulled the dash out of the 86 and it taught me a few things that made pulling the dash out of the 81. There are some screws that you don't have to take out, things of that nature. I can say this, it was worth every cuss and kick of the parts truck(I did manage not to cuss the good truck). The result was mind blowing compared to what it did look like. I can't wait to finish the other mods that we have planned for the truck. Hopefully we will be starting on those in the near future. My son has really fallen in love with his truck. I will have to post some pics of him with it. Good luck on everyones projects. If you live "close" to me I do have some parts left off the 86 so if you need anything I may have it. PM me and I will let you know.

I was able to remove mine without tools just a firm grip and pulled straight out popped right off and snapped right back on when I was done.

Stosh - I see you are using the '92 -'96 door mirrors - I switched to thoes on my '86
2 wd and am switching my '85 4x4 too. I think the mirror's look great. Excellent job on the interior. What's the color of the exterior?

brthevio - your's looks good too - I just favor the 4x4 w/ 4-spd.

The only reason that I am running those mirrors is because the doors came off of a later model Bronco and the stock mirrors would not cover the holes.

I'm not sure about the interior color. I've heard it referred to as Fawn and Saddle Tan.

I used to have a link to all of the interior colors, but somehow it got lost and for the life of me I cannot find it again.

I live in Arkansas...just moved here from Salt Lake. So I sort of live close to Arkansas....I see El Dorado is down by Louisiana.

Yeah Eldorado is down at the bottom. About the only good thing about it is that there are old fords all over the place down here.
