i use lucas upper cylinder lube.its like 20.00 a gallon or 7.00 a QT
i throw in some power service in the white bottle in the very cold months.
its an 03 with 106,000 miles no problems
If you can still get 500 ppm sulfur fuel, you don't need any additive (unless you live up north..... then you need to add an anti-gel in the winter)
Pretty soon, all you'll be able to get is ULSD.... already a fact of life in some areas. Then, you'll need a fuel additive to increase lubricity and prevent fuel pump & injector wear. 2% to 5% bio or Opti-Lube XPD are your best options.
The winter anti-gel recommendation still carries. You can add a cetane booster as well, if you're so inclined... helps cold starts and, if you believe hard enough, helps your mileage a little bit. The Power Service white bottle does both. Power Service grey bottle is a cetane booster only.
Some guys will tell you that you also need additives in your engine oil, transmission (whether auto or manual), diff lube, and probably your windshield washer fluid. I ain't one of them.
The best thing you can do for your injectors is run biodiesel. Do a search in this forum and you'll find many posts about the superior lubricating properties of biodiesel.
I'd like to hop on this thread and ask a little bit different question.
I already use DK. I know that it adds lubricity and cetane.
On gas engines I sometimes run a bottle of injector cleaner. Does DK clean injectors? Is there some other product that claims to do that?
I know that bio at 20%, which we have in my area, will clean a lot of gunk out of your tank and that it's important to change fuel filters after first time use. Is it correct to assume that bio cleans injectors?
For the record, we don't use fuel additives in any of the units in my signature line. We didn't with high sulfer fuel, we didn't with low sulfer fuel, even though the sky was also falling then because of lubricity concerns when the changeover occured and have no intention of using them with the ultra low sulfer fuel.

At $4 per gallon for fuel, the added expense of a lubricity additive is chump change. Your choice, but I'd rather add it and not need it than find out in 100,000 miles that I should have been adding it. You could buy a trainload of additive like XPD for the price of a set of injectors.
Like I said, it's your choice..... I didn't use it at all until the ULSD hit the pumps, but now I'm putting it in.

Bio cleans and lubricates injectors at as low as 2%. I shoot for between 2 and 5%.
Lots of folks feel they get as much as 0.5 mpg improvement w/ additives. If so, it more than pays for itself. In fact it pays for itself at 0.2 mpg improvement.
There will always be a lot of opinions on the fuel additive question. I ran stanadyne from day one in every tank. Well almost every tank I ran out a few times. The times I did run out I did not notice any difference. So around 4-5 months ago I switched to biodiesel. To me it makes more sense and it is cheaper than adding additives. With biodiesel I do notice a difference, the motor runs a lot smoother and has lost most of the loud diesel clatter. But this is just my opinion.
I use a qt of 2 cycle (in my 98 gal transfer flow tank) every time I fill up. I also use Ford motorcraft anti gell in the winter and performance formula in the summer.
I only run the Ford Additive in mine as I always have it on hand from my local supplier. Anti-Gel in the winter and Centane boost in the summer. I have had good luck with it and I get it for like 5 bucks a bottle and it treats 120 gallons. It has other additives in it as well for lubricity and what not.
