Help in removing upper console to replace eyeglass holder
Hi everybody. I searched other forum posts and cannot find an answer to my question (which I am sure you folks will be able to answer). I have a 2003 Ford F250 SuperDuty with the 7.3 diesel engine. It is the Lariet so it is loaded with leather, heated seats, etc. It has an upper console with compass, temp, eyeglass holder, garage door opener holder. Like the rest of you, I think Ford could have done a better job with a $40k truck in designing the plastic eyeglass and garage door opener holders. They both have cheap plastic tabs holding them in place, and as plastic gets older it gets brittle. My wife broke the tabs on the eyeglass holder, so I went to the dealer for a replacement. GEEZ, $68.00 just for the little plastic piece. At any rate, now I am ready to install the holder, but I don't want to wreck it during installation. From looking at things carefully, I think I have to remove the upper console to properly install the eyeglass holder. I cannot find the screws holding the console onto the upper roof of the truck. Can anyone help me with locating the mounting screws so that I can drop the console and install the eyeglass holder? THANKS everyone!
I replaced my console a couple of years ago for the same reason. If I remember correctly, the whole thing is attached with clips around the edge of the console. Try pulling on an edge and you should see or feel a clip. The whole console should come out. I think I used a small flat head screwdriver to pry at the clip.
I replaced the whole console because if I recall, you can get it for about the same price as just the little piece that you broke. Check with the parts dept. You might be able to return the part you have and buy the entire console. Also, you don't need to be that careful removing the old one because you'll have the new one anyway if you damage it.
I've been looking for just such info on the center seat back rest cup holder storage area, to no avail. Im thinking I'll have to get an assembly manual of ford origin to get the deal done. Helms manuals is available on-line for cost and offers hard copies or electronic copies of most makes and models. Good hunting and welcome!!
Thanks for the information! It seems like this problem has been around for years. The dealer was certainly aware of it! Unfortunately, since this is an "integrated" console with the temp/compass/etc. replacing the whole thing is around $300 at the dealer. You can't find it used at the salvage yard (and they all seem to have the same issue anyway). I will try to remove the unit by pulling on the rear and hopefully the clips will release. I will post tonight after my attempt. THANKS everyone. It really is a nice truck and I just don't understand why they can't resolve this issue!

Try ebay if your looking to replace the console. There are all kinds of them on there, for much cheaper than the dealer.
