Overhead console door broken
I have a '02 Lariat and never use the overhead console pockets. But one day 3 wks ago when it was quite hot I opened the sunglass bin to check the inside temp of the roof and crack! the tab you push on to open it broke. Now the door will not stay closed.....what a cheap POS.
So I go to the dealer to get a price and they can't find a listing for the part! Anybody else have these break and how was it replaced?

HAHA, i just had that happen to me a while back. Why the heck did they make it out of suh brittle plastic????
I went to the parts department, and the only picture they were able to pull up had the old pocket style deal. I guess model numbers are different, however the picture is just a universal one- that might have been the problem. It is just the shell that needs replacing, 43$

I had the door that holds the garage door opener break the tab off. I askeD the service manager if it happens often. He said no the sunglass doors break more often. Mine is a 2003, they replaced the entire console on warranty. My service record says PART# 2C3Z*25519A70*AAC

door update
Well i went to a couple of other dealers in the area and got quoted $73.12 for that POS door! p/n 2C3Z-781-1586-BAB
Hell with that......So can somebody help me out with a elementary way to remove the counsole so i can get the door out and try to fix it myself? Could not locate he 1/2 slots and tabs. Either that or I am going to glue it closed

there are 2 locking tabs at the end of the console .
pulling down gently while releasing them.
That just takes the outside finish panel off ,to get the rest of it youhave to take out the headliner
this according to manual.

Are the tabs at the rear of the console? Under one of the doors? Thanks for your help..going to check it out later

Check with your dealer, it is cheaper to order the entire console with doors than it is to order the doors by itself. I don't know why, but that's what I had to do. Parts manager showed me on his computer the price difference. For the set of doors it would have cost $78, I purchased the entire console with doors for $54.
Installation was easy. Pull the old one off, push the new one in.

Ehagerty, a few months ago my sunglass door on my 02 F250 Lariat broke the same way yours did. The latch really is a bad design. It shouldn't be made of plastic. I got a new one for $37.36 at the dealership here in Illinois.
Like Pocket said, installation is pretty easy. When removing the old one, the small metal clips might stay in the mounting holes. I just used a pair of needle-nose pliers to pull them out. Then just snap the new console assembly in place. Good luck!
