Put a 2x4 block underneath the gas pedal...that'l saves loads of fuel! *l*

Yeah...Air filter, possibly exhaust although I may be wrong but wasn't the exhaust 3 1/2 inch on the 03's...someone will chime in on that...maybe a mild tune

Congrats on the EX ...hard to find anymore

Welcome to the 7.3 forum. Read this link, it will tell you alot about your truck. Take your time, it will take a while but it is well worth it. It will save you hundreds of dollars in just a few months. (It actually will cost you thousands of dollars but will save you hundreds when spending those thousands Just read it, then you will understand) http://www.7point3.com/mods.aspx
Get the 6637 Kwik filter. You can buy it here: http://www.fleetfilter.com/SearchResults2.asp
The Napa part number is 46637. Search for it in air filters, it's down the page about 2/3 of the way. Even with Shipping it's about $10 cheaper than if you walk in to your local Napa and buy it.

Let the PMS begin!!!

Do you get a huge plume of black smoke at WOT? If so, the first thing would be the 6637. Almost any performance chip is better than none. If it is true you already have 3 1/2" exhaust I don't know how much better going to 4" will do you. but muffler delete pipe will sure help, and if you have a cat, get rid of that. Look for all leaks in the turbo system, I think there are 6 of them to be concerned with. I found all of mine to be somewhat loose when I finally got around to checking them after owning the truck for several years.

Don't they all come from the factory with a 3 1/2" exhaust?

You fool with it and spend some money you'll get 6 mpg just using a little common sense with your right foot.

I would not own a big, heavy vehicle of any kind that is not diesel powered. Period.

It all depends on how you drive it. If you spend a bunch of money on mods that make it faster than a sports car you might have trouble stayin off the go pedal. Too many RPM's are very hard on the MPG's.

If you're new to diesels then you will need to change the fuel filter every 15,000 miles, the oil every 5,000 miles, and the air filter as needed. It's generally accepted that 2,000 rpm's is the magic number for fuel economy. Keep it at or below that rpm and you will do much better. I'd start off by hand calculating the mileage you get over several tank fulls and then start doing mods after that if needed.

The diesel has always been more economical than the gasser, but the current disparity in fuel costs are throwing a wrench into that a little. I'm currently getting about 19 MPG running empty in my 350 crew cab long bed. Some get more, most get less.

Biodiesel is fine in these engines, but bio acts like a solvent and cleans everything out real well. Since you don't know the condition of the tank & fuel lines, I'd suggest carrying a spare fuel filter with you in case you clog up the one in the truck.

Nope, before any other mods except for my Superchip the chip quit. I was without it for about 10 days and lost about 3 mpg, now with the few other mods I've done I have gotten another 3 mpg. If I could get everything done I would like to get done I could probably get up near 26 to 27 mpg using common sense while driving.

Your right foot is the main differance in RPM, If you want a big vehicle there is no other way to go but diesel. A 6637 will help, 4" exhaust, and a DP tuner with 80 econo, should help you MPG. But as every one has said try to keep it below 2000 rpm.

No Doubt had all the big block gassers, they got nothing on the 7.3, Great Engine, Good Mileage with Common Sense as told above.
