Ever since I bought the truck back in August of 06, the 4x4 low has been a problem to get into and out of. It is electronic so I am affaid to use it and not be able to get it out. I think the electronic 4x4 uses electric solenoids to shift, or does it actually use vacuum to shift? Has anybody else had this problem? If so, what did you have to do to fix it? How much are the solenoids?
Tried everything. I found the best why to put it in and remove it from low is be at Silver Lake Sand Dunes and be going DOWN a steep hill and it will usually engage and disengage easy, but other than that, it can be a pain to engage and disengage.
The truck must be in neutral with foot on break. Turn **** to 4x4 low, might take a few seconds for the motor to shift the transfer case into low. With the truck off and key in on position, stand outside by drivers seat. Turn switch to 4x4 high and listen for motor sound, you should hear the motor run. Do the same with 4x4 low, should hear the motor run. That will tell you how long it should take to change the gears.
mine doesnt engage at all, sorry not trying to hi jack thread.....
Check the wires at the motor to see if it is getting power when you turn the switch. Also I have heard of some people pulling the motor then turn the switch to see if the motor will run. Some say they have had the motor jam and taking it off and putting it back on fixed it.

So I assume that it must use a little electric motor to switch the gear to low?
