Howdy all, as of last night I am no longer a wanna be, just browsing the site and dreaming. I picked up a 1952 F3 from a local scrap yard. It's taken almost 2 1/2 years to convince the wife there was actual reason to buy this truck. I think I got the first pictures posted in my gallery. Can't wait to bloody my knuckles tearing it apart.
Congratulations and welcome aboard.
Nice looking truck.
I wish I had a scrap yard around like that one. Looks like a lot of other interesting stuff there.
Welcome
Looks like a lot of potential there. I see you even have the all important "At Home" picture.
Is the Garage heated? MtHome can get a little chilly and since you'll be sleeping out there for the next several years it's a consideration.
Congrats on finding a project and getting it home. Don't worry about the wifey, enjoy these peaceful moments when she is not speaking to you to plan out what you want to do with the truck.
I posted this in another thread the other day but I think it applies here as well;
I found an old truck,
The engines not stuck.
The body is battered and beat.
It was such a good deal,
Practically a steal.
Before I knew it I was taking it home with me.
As I got to my house
My thoughts turned to the spouse
As I wondered how made she will be.
With hands on her hips,
And a purse to her lips
I noticed she was glaring at me
“What!? Are you drunk??
We don’t need anymore junk!”
Exasperated she was yelling at me
With my big dopey grin
She was starting to cave in
“Just park it where the neighbors can’t see”
(to be continued)
LOOKING GOOD MAN, It all starts here, don't be ascared to ask questions or ask for help on anything except questions on how to handle the wife, trust me you don't want to go there --------WELCOME------- garry
I actually found it 2 1/2 years ago. The original flathead was still in it. It had suffered an engine bay fire in the late eighties and had been parked since then. He pulled the flathead about four months ago and dropped the price to $750 for me.
Last Friday the wife had friends over dinner so I took the opportunity to break out pictures of restored old trucks. Ganged up on the spousal unit and the last words I heard were "tell him $700". I left after that.
The yard is called Vintage Auto, in mountain home, idaho. He's got three F5s with good front fenders, an F4 with the original heater still in it and a couple F1s with misc parts still attached. I didn't feel brave enough to ask how much he wanted for the Packard straight8/tranny that was sitting next to this truck.
It really is in pretty good shape. The only major rust is on the bedsides, toward the front, on both sides. There are spots here and there, but even the floorboards are solid. The cab corners and frame are good to, of course I have only been able to see from the ground so far. I'll have the bed and cab off in a couple of weeks to make sure. My daughter wants to make a new tailgate for it to show off her welding skills. I won't complain.
The garage is not heated, but I do have an arctic bag to sleep in.

haha, I have to be the first to ask this, but how old is your daughter and is she single?? (btw I am completely kidding on that one)
No, I think its awesome that you have the chance to make this a family project. All the help I currently have is a couple of buddies to help muscle around big heavy things like truck beds and cabs... I wouldn't trust any of them with a power tool anywhere near my truck....
