I went to a local body shop to see about fixing a few things. One of the things on my list was the door moldings on the left side. Seems the tops of it will fade after a few years in the Hawaiian sun even with waxing.
So...he looks up the Ford part and get this, the rear door is $35.20. The front door molding is a fuggin' whopping $274.40!! What the ?????
He musta been looking at the gold plated one...all I need is the plastic one.
I've been looking at getting limited molding and getting painted silver. (Still waiting on the guy with the set in the Classifieds.) Think that'll look stupid?? Ya know...same color molding as the body? I'm not much into two-tone things. I was thinking it would look ... well ... different.
Beside Arizona beige (yuck) what was the other color of Limited body cladding offered?
Or do like I did and remove them altogether. I didn't see where they helped much anyway so I peeled them off then went to the local body suply shop and got an "eraser wheel" to remove the remaining glue stuck on the doors. The eraser wheel is basically a big pencil eraser and it works very well! Only cost about $15.00 After that I took 1200 grit sand paper and sanded where the molding was and buffed it out with some compound. You can't tell it ever had molding and makes my truck look like the newer modles that didn't come with molding.
What molding are we talking about here. Mine is a 2000 and I do not have door molding on it that protects the edge of the door if you hit something with it , if that is what you are refering to.
I think its the molding along the bottom of the door skins nj. Be paitent Monsta and in two years you can have mine when I have them removed to custom paint the Ex
*props feet in desk* Yeah, sure western star...no problem.
The moldings are the one about 3/4 way down the door and on the lower belt line. I think only XLS's have them. The XLTs have lower cladding and the Limiteds have full cladding.
I'm gonna take 4wheelfurry's suggestion and remove them. Give it that European, slab-sided look .
I got the bodyside molding put on my F-250 Super Cab.(My truck didn't have them) They came pre-painted and ready to stick on. It cost around $150 installed to do both front doors and the rear half doors.
Parts pricing is strange. Just like on V10 exhaust manifolds, the drivers side manifold cost over $250 more than the pass side manifold. Must be that expensive egr boss cast on there.
try being the parts guy, telling someone what the price is.
always makes for a fun day!
Best response I can come up with is what do you do for a living?
And try to turn it around on them, most of the time that works.
plummers and electricians and goverment fleet guy are the best, they usually just stop speaking and pay for the part! Had a little fun with that one over the years.
Still I'm a working stiff too, and things just aint getting cheaper. So I hope I save someone a buck or two while still be able to make a couple to.
Seems the tops of it will fade after a few years in the Hawaiian sun even with waxing.
It's not the sun. It's acid rain.
Having said that..... I have a Chevrolet Lumina as a company car. The bodyside moldings had faded with a chalky grungy look. But believe it or not, with a lot of elbow grease and wax, they came right back to life. Seems it was a buildup of something on the molding rather than them having actually faded. Try it.
