53-56 Indicator lights

Do any of you guys out there have rear indicator lights on your pickups. If so what did you use?
Cheers

Do you mean like clearance lights like you might see on a trailer? I don't think any state here requires them on a pickup. What are the regulations on them there? could you use the LED lights that are designed to go into the ends of the bed side rolls, or possibly the LED license plate bolts? I like LED lights because they are small and bright and no bulbs to burn out.

If you mean rear turn signal indicators then many use the 12v after market OEM style Ford lights that have a double element bulb.

Let me know more about the lights in the bed side rolls. I've thought of making some to use as concealed back-up lights but haven't invented the perfect cure yet. are they produced somewhere????

Try Pro's Pick out of Canada, www.pros-pick.com but be prepared to spend some bucks.

I get the feeling from the question and responses that we have a colloquial dichotomy going on here. Is this like where the hood is a bonnet? Or maybe where the trunk is a boot? What the heck are "rear indicator lights" anyway?

Or am I the only dumb one here?

Himmelberg, where are you when we need you?

Mid Fifty sells them in several sizes depending on the roll size of your bed. LED ones are 69.00 a pair.

I think that is much less expensive than Pro's Pick. Better check that one out.

They are in the catalog section with the beds, not with the taillights. They even have teardrop shaped billet ones for the teardrop rolls.

Sorry for confusing you guys out there. Indicators or blinkers as they are known in Australia are called by you guys Turn Signals. By law we don't have to have them on a vechile if the vechile originally didn't have them when manufactured. So I have to stick my hand outside the drivers door window to let the other vechiles know that I am making a left or right hand turn. And that would be a pain in the butt. So I can convert my front parking lamps to a turn signal operation. As for the rear I was asking if you guys have any suggestion?

Paul, thanks for posting that question. Have been thinking about the same thing on my '50. The PO had added additional stock tail lights to the rear and mounted lights on the top of the fenders in the front for indicator (turn signal) lights. I'm thinking that on the front if I can put in a dual contact wiring kit in to the orig. socket of the parking light, I could wire it to work with the turn signal. The rear already has a dual filiment bulb (tail/stop) socket so should only be a matter of wireing it correctly.

Yes, simply switching the taillight bulb socket for a dual filament one and wiring them into the turn signal circuits would be the easiest solution, and the route most here would take. There are also reproduction taillight assemblies on the market with the dual filament sockets already installed. Another option would be to add a second socket to the housing say like for one of the wedge base bulbs like are used on a lot of late model side marker lights and wire those as indicators. IMHO Our DMV people might take a "dim view" (pun intended) of a turn indicator light that is not incorporated into the taillight or very close by, since that is where following drivers would expect to see them.

I did what AX mentioned, added a second socket inside the stock lamp housing. Have functional "turn signals" with a stock look, spent about $6
