I believe they were exactly the same for '00 as '04 (the trans itself)... should work no problem.
edit - May need a different mounting/adapter plate? I'm not sure if the 7.3 has the same bolt pattern as the 6.0 where the trans mounts to the engine...talking about the bellhousing.
Is there a trans expert in the house?

From what I can tell searching the net, you may be right. I hope so. A local body shop has one from the 6.0 he is willing to sell much cheaper than most rebuilds.
I'm almost certain that the trans itself is the same. Just not sure whether the bellhousing pattern between the 6.0 and 7.3 is the same.
One thing you could do in the mean time if nobody here chimes in, is give BTS or John Wood a call and ask them... I think they would know right offhand, and with certainty. They both tend to be busy, though...
