sfc - That was exactly my first thought when I saw it. I guess there are only so many ways to design the looks of a truck before you run out of ideas. Still a good looking truck either way.
I still dont see how Ford thinks they dont need a small truck in their lineup. Id very much be interested in a smaller truck when its time to trade in my '99 F-150 in a couple years.
However, Im not at all impressed by the reviews of the Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon and a Toyota Tacoma or Nissan Frontier isnt even an option (no imports, thanks).
I think Ford could really dominate the small truck market again if they came out with a well-made, afforably-priced small truck that matched the performance and capability specs of the Tacoma.
I feel the same way. If the Ranger goes away and I don't like the replacement I'll probably be done with Fords. If I wanted an F-150 I would have bought one by now.
That'd be nice if they would import or build us the Aussie version.
ford would be very very stupid if they did not bring over the aussie ranger, 30mpg or better diesel's, off road versions to compete with the rubicon, crew cabs, long beds, lifted 2 wheel drive's you name it, they got the good stuff, 6 speed standards i think too.

I agree, I have bled Blue Oval for 28 years since the age of 12. Since my first car at age 15 I have owned close to 30, three of them purchased new. Only three clunkers were not Ford..
I fear though that they have already gone stupid!!
The Ranger should have been redesigned 10 years ago and again 5 years ago to keep it in the #1 spot.
That image pictured is of our current (2006 model and later) Ranger.
It won't make it the US ever... there is a very small chance (although its decreasing by the day) of you getting the next (2011) Ranger.
I suggest if you care about it, you:
1. Tell your dealer.
2. Contact the Ford Customer Relationship Centre.
3. Complain and make as much Ruckus as you can...
Like I have said before, the ranger is to be replaced by the mid sized F-100 in the near future, then it can be counted with the F-series sales.
I hope you are right. I dont really have a need for a fullsize truck and if Ford doesnt make the truck I want, I just might have to jump ship and trade my F-150 in on a Chevy Colorado or GMC Canyon.
My family has owned nothing but Fords since the late '70s, but if Ford isnt building the truck I want, I guess I will have have to switch to a bowtie.
I know the Colorado/Canyon isnt perfect, but its better than a Dodge Dakota and I wont even consider an import.

I hear ya.
I attended the NA Auto show in MPLS MN last weekend. In speaking with a Ford rep. I was told that the Ranger will continue, name undecided yet. The current Ranger will go through 2009 with the new model in 2010. He also said the MPLS/St. Paul Ranger plant will stay open through production of the 2009 Ranger, then close. He said it is too old and costly to bring up to new production tecniques.
